Hi, this summer I will be visiting my girlfriends family in Si Saket. I would love to see Angkor Wat, is it possible to go by bus to Siam Reap from Si Saket? Are there any travel agencies organizing trips to Angkor in Siam Reap? Travelling from Surin is also possible as my girlfriends sister works there and we will be visiting them. I'm not the backpacker type of traveller, don't want to go in the back of a pick up :o  Would rather go on an organized trip with a local travel agency. Anybody experience with travel agencies in Si Saket or Surin? Searching the internet hasn't really helped me...

A big zero for you I'm afraid. It is possible to go to Siam Reap from Si Saket via Kantharalak but this is very much a pick up ride and a rough one at that. Khao Pra Wihan just over the border is a much less visited Khmer ruin as its almost inaccessible from the Cambodian side...google it, good trip from Si Saket. Your not going to find any organised trips from where your going to Ankor, and certainly not on the net, and your best route in would probably be from Aranya Prathet, easy to catch a bus there and continue to Ankor.

Thanks for the information, I was already suspecting that we would need to take the route v

ia Aranya Prathet. Didn't know about  Khao Pra Wihan, will look it up.

Take the bus to Chong Jom and then hire a taxi at the border to take you to Siem Reap see Tales of Asia for accounts of this journey.

Actually I've done this and also emailed it to Tales of Asia above. reason I didn't recommend it was the OP said he was going in Summer and wanted a comfortable trip. Its far from comfortable at the best of times but it can be a nightmare during the summer (rainy season) with many bridges washed out. I was that way last summer also and the tout situation has worsened (and that was with 2 Khmer speakers with us). Up to the individual I guess.... :o

Reading the accounts on Tales of Asia I could only see one from last summer and that was from a guy who did the Chong Jom - Siem Reap trip on 22-aug-06. Apparently his journey took him 5 hours on a muddy pot-holed dirt road which is what i'd expect from Poi pet aswell (in summer)? He does end his write-up with "all in all the trip was very nice" but as you say it's all up to the individual isn'it?
