Former Democrat Party deputy leader Vittaya Kaewparadai resigned from the party today (Friday), with a parting warning to the executive committee that the sex assault scandal in which Prinn Panitchpakdi is allegedly implicated, has seriously damaged the party’s reputation and that the committee must do more.

A former health minister, government whip chief, and MP representing Thailand’s southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Vittaya said he has been a member of various parties, but has spent most of his time with the Democrat party, adding that, while the party has weathered both good and bad times, this sex scandal is damaging.

The executive committee, he said, should demonstrate clearly that ethical standards are above any legal standard. Even if the party is not in the wrong, but someone in the party is wrong, the executive committee should be held accountable “because it is they who brought Prinn into the party in the first place.”

So he’s quiting because of the bad publicity and further decline in popularity…in other words looking after himself.

That everyone is a true politician.

Time to move the ethical and legal standards out of the gutter?

he is "has been", not an active politician, so not a rat jumping the ship before elections.

But being senior in the democrat party for so long, it's interesting to know, if he knew about Prinn sexual antics within party and beyond party.

I have a hint, that he knew well all along, as many other seniors within their party. And thats why he resigned now.

There would be internal party investigation, already with 2 special teams working on the issue.

By resigning now he has less chance on influencing them.

Looks like he was on the outskirts of party for sometimes, opposing close links with the ruling party, and as far as quitting governmental coalition a year ago. He was on a way out of the party for sometimes.

When quitting he should reveal what he knows about the scandal
