Hi ,

I have to wire in $55,000 USD to cover real estate purchase .

I have heard conflicting reports on how to do this.

I know any more than$10,000 deposit into a U.S. acct needs paperwork

I have read on posts that under $20,000 for a wire transfer in several transactions.

Does anyone know if it is under $10,000 or under $20,000 several times.

Am I better off to carry $9,900 in cash & 3 wire transfers of $18,000?

Should this be at different locations of bank branches?

Should I put a day in between transactions?

I have paid the taxes on this & filed with the gov. already & want to avoid any more taxes!

Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

If this is a condo type real estate purchase by a foreigner special wording is required on transfer and special paperwork issued. You need to check that carefully. Am surprised you have not been informed of this if you are dealing with someone.

There is currently a policy to withhold 30% of transfers over USD 20K for one year at Bank of Thailand to prevent market speculations. This does not apply to condo purchase and most normal things but bank needs to be aware of this so it does not get transferred and then you have to fill out paperwork to get it back.

Talk with your Thai bank first. I believe you will want to transfer the full amount with the specific use stated.
