Fines imposed on vendors should be used to benefit people – Chadchart

Independent Bangkok gubernatorial candidate Chadchart Sittipunt says the collection of fines from law-breaking street vendors by the City Law Enforcement Department, which amounts to about 100 million baht a year, does not benefit people in the capital at all, but increases the hardship for the vendors who are trying to make an honest living.

 

The former transport minister made this comment while campaigning among vendors at Saphan Kwai and Din Daeng markets today (Thursday).

 

Even though the fines are legal, with receipts issued, he said that half of the amount is shared as rewards for the tip-offs and the other half goes into the government’s coffers, with nothing left for the benefit of the people.

Did someone verify who is tipping off? I am sure the one writing the fines is no different than the one snitching.

The fines benefit those who they were intended for.

And what did he do to reduce death on the roads while in his former position like maybe introduce a real driving test,  as with all of them sweet fanny Adam.

A driving test won't do much good ,it's the attitude of the people  who drive .

"Law breaking street vendors", the people trying to eke out a living and have to obey the laws which rich and privileged people have made to take away their earnings through fines.

Well yes that 's correct, but weeks/months, of on the road, correct, training should accomplish that if not FAIL ! not 20hrs at a driving school guarantee pass. I remember in the UK you were not allowed even to drive home when you passed.
