The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) was expected to decide on the Ministry of Public Health’s proposal to lift the Thailand Pass for Thai citizens at its meeting led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Friday.

However, no decision has been made on the issue, despite calls for its removal.

“We still have to be cautious and continue to closely monitor the situation of Omicron and other new variants that could happen in the future,” Prayut said after the meeting. “We have to plan for them and adjust our measures accordingly and timely,” he said.

Nearly 240,000 people have registered with Thailand Pass since entry regulations were relaxed at the beginning of May, the CCSA reported on Friday.

Translate: If you don't want to come to Thailand, you do not need to get the damn Thailand Pass.

Simples. The choice is so obvious.

Happy for it to stay - did yesterday for trip to Singapore, it took 5 minutes and got pass back same day. Rather have it pre approved than the stress whether docs are going to be accepted on arrival.

There is no reason in maintaining the Thai Pass except this would also mean no reason to maintain the state of emergency and CCSA. Personally for purely selfish reasons would like both to be maintained as will drastically reduce number of tourist entering the country keeping accomodation and related tourist businesses prices low but this is not in the best interests of the tourism industry

Keep all the restrictions and then we can have another year free of Japanese and Korean golfers clogging up the courses.

I know people who are golfers that would agree. ????

I'd prefer to keep the wearing of masks on motorbikes, but no helmet rule though. ????

Wait until it's declared endemic then you won't need the Thailand Pass.

TAT better revise their number by half.

Hmm, IOW, never going to happen. Planning for future events that you have no idea what they will be or if they will ever occur is futile. Based on that logic all new-born baby boys should be fitted with a condom once the umbilicle is cut in case they catch some STD later in life. It MAY happen but in the meantime you just make life harder for the baby and all those connected with him.

All you tech savvy people have no compassion for those of us who are not. Uploading docs may be simple for some but a brain crusher for others, and totally unnecessary, just a way to maintain an insurance scam.

Its a non issue now for vaccinated people. Insurance for the required $10,000 is only 650 baht issued almost immediately online with a 14 day qualification and The Thailand Pass is issued online the same day.

Maybe its the unvaccinated people who are complaining

Or simple wait until they cut the chase.

They are keeping the Thailand Pass because the Chinese are still not ready to travel overseas.  So there is no hurry on the part of the Thai government to relax the restrictions.

As soon as China resumes normality, everything will be lifted to facilitate the Chinese.  The stampede at hotel buffet rooms will once again light up.

Thailand will be paying for it's cowardice, indecisiveness, hesitancy, and stupidity for years to come. The sabotage of tourism is nearly complete. A hundred years from now Prayuth, Anutin and Phiphat will be remembered. For turning the tiger of SE Asia into an anemic, sickly, pathetic alley cat. Broke, down on it's luck and lagging behind on most levels, at #89 in the world in GDP.

It is a draconian, arrogant and mindless inconvenience, that most will just say NO to.

Maybe you are right, but maybe its the millions of potential tourists who do not want to be scammed out of their money?

Some insurance companies are making some fast bucks out of this!

I don't know how people justify this. It's just another nuisance to travelling turning people away. Most people have been vaccinated and Covid barely has an impact on the vaccinated. So why are we pushing this on people still?

Huh?

Perhaps you travelled in the past another universe?

Where I recall the past the only docs needed to be approved/accepted in the not that distance past was a valid passport.

Both funny and scarry that ppl forgot how travelling was just 3 yrs ago....

Insurance money grab continues.  PLUS the 350 bht that they say is also for "insurance".  Wow, absolutley raking it in.  I'd go elsewhere.

What does this military educated clown know about planning anything? He should do us all a favour and go back to the barracks and parade grounds for what he is educated for and take his soldiers with him, and leave running the country to actual politicians.
