Suphachai Pongchababpha has around 70 Ukrainians staying for the discounted rate at The Kala in Moo 4. Many are continuing to work remotely despite being stranded in Thailand and are availing themselves of sports to keep active and busy. Some locals made a delivery of "kluay nam wa" bananas to help out. District chief Chayaphol Intharasupha priased the initiative saying that it reflects well on Samui's image. The hotel is working in conjunction with the crisis center already established on the holiday island in Surat Thani. Any of them have nukes or are a major bread basket for the world? The reality is the Russia Ukraine war is the most globally important war since WW2 and its not even close. Also to note the speed of Ukrainians becoming refugees dwarfs those other conflicts. Also how many Yemenis were stuck specifically in Thailand when war broke out there? Most of the world may not care YET about the Russia Ukraine war but they really should. Edited May 18, 2022 by Jingthing 13 2

I agree this is great, Some people have big hearts here in Thailand and the Ukrainian's that are stuck here should have a nice place to stay before they go home and see what Putin's Russia has done to them. 8

Popular Post spidermike007
Any act of generosity like this, is gratefully appreciated. And noted. Truly a wonderful gesture. Motives are not important. It is the very act that is noble and wonderful. Good news for a change!
Popular Post Srikcir
Note that some Ukrainians currently out of their country may not have a home to return to, nor private vehicle, commercial support enterprises, health & welfare support, functioning infrastructure or local government, school, family & friend connections, etc, means that remaining in Thailand as long as possible would provide serious relief and keep them out of harm's way.

Of course it is a generous gesture of the businessman, I think you should have guessed that my point and criticism is directed at the government and its position with an ASEAN country like Myanmar and the attitude of the Thai forces to forcibly return those who cross the border seeking help. It’s meaning; for these, no hotel, no room, no bed, no food, just a kick to get them out Edited May 18, 2022 by Tarteso

NativeBob
Not being "cynical": just that banana thing ... Either translate or transliterate - otherwise looks like some Kaballistic script: Banana water wa? Alay wa? Oh, you mentioned small and uber-sweet bananas? Why wouldn't you say that? Learning Thai by examples? 2 1

brianthainess
Yes good to hear, but 6,000 a month is not that 'cheap' in reality. Cheap if "Most are still working remotely'' though.
