Most overseas arrivals in Thailand this year come from India

Indian tourists represent the most foreign arrivals in Thailand so far this year. 100,884 arrived between January 1st and May 24th, said Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana yesterday (Sunday).

He said, however, that the Tourism Authority Thailand (TAT) will try to attract as many as 3,000 Indian tourists per month through pro-active tourism promotion and marketing campaigns and the opening of new direct flight serviceslinking Indian cities with Thai tourist destinations, such as Chiang Mai.

He said the TAT also plans to attract tourists from the Middle East, Singapore and Malaysia to visit Thailand, with the promotion of wellness, marriage and honeymoon, sports, eco-tourism and shopping packages.

There are gangs of seemingly not very wealthy Indian 'men only', currently wandering about where we are in BKK......never seen them spending any money though......not too sure ordinary Thais, other than those employed in hotels, will benefit greatly.

Yes, 99% males hanging out in Pattaya.  They love to get massages and walk in groups on Beach Road.

Very happy to see them.

Not to forget, most gold imports so far this year are from India too... ????

India was the third largest source of arrivals in 2019 after China and Malaysia. China is still closed and the land borders to Malaysia reopened very recently, so logical for India to climb to No 1.

Thailand will continue to attract primarily lower to middle income tourists. No improvements have been made, no luxury taxes lowered, no sacrifices made, and the experience is even more degraded than before, with less nightlife and more misguided purification.

Blame the lame ducks.

From the main article:

"The TAT has forecast that at least 500,000 foreign tourists will visit Thailand each month between now and September, about 200,000 more than the original projection, generating about 22.5 billion baht in revenue."

But they also say

"...that the Tourism Authority Thailand (TAT) will try to attract as many as 3,000 Indian tourists per month through pro-active tourism promotion..."

Well, 3000 is just 1.7% of 500,000.

Hardly represents a majority of tourists. 100 per day? Figures just concocted and never checked.

There now seem to be more Indian nationals than Chinese visiting Thailand. Just my observation, no stats to back it up.

Overseas???  India is right on Thailand’s border. In what sense are they “overseas”?

Oh. Has Thailand just annexed Burma? Must have missed that.

Oh well.

Guess we'll to wait for the influx of the usual trashy mix of Farang visitors [and residents as well].

That'll make everything quite ok, won't it.......

I have never been shoved out of the way by an Indian in line at a 7-11 store. They are unfailingly polite. I can’t say the same for Chinese tourists unless they are from Hong Kong.

Yes, I also overlooked the great “Sea of Myanmar” which separates them. The key word was “overseas”.  Doesn’t qualify.

I lived for a while in China, and I've been a number of times in Hong Kong. I agree with you in this regard. Strange thing is, the mainland Chinese know of their bad reputation of being outright rude and inconsiderate, but many of them just don't care. The

Chinese from Hong Kong or Taiwan are very different from these mainland Chinese.

What's the deal with them? They wander around in male groups. Que to get into the Indian buffet down the bottom of Pratunmak. One beer between 4. What do they offer? Pattaya is getting the dregs of India. I visited India. My driver said he was going on holiday with his friend. Bear in mind he was married with 3 kids. Be was going to Pattaya. Not with the family. I think the Indian money goes on holiday to Europe.

Why do 5 or 6 or 7 or 8 Indians always seem to be walking together?.....You virtually never see farangs doing this.......
