A car bomb maker was sentenced to a total of 46 years in prison yesterday (Tuesday) by the Yala provincial court after he was found guilty of involvement, with eight others, in stealing a van and turning it into a car bomb.

The defendant and eight other people, who are still at large, stole a van belonging to the Kerry delivery service in Muang district of Thailand’s southern province of Yala on March 12th last year.

I don't object to the sentence here, but don't understand the reasoning when a Brit got only 8 years for the actual killing of a woman...

They didn't kill anyone.. got off lightly on a technicality?

to see a murderer who then chopped up his victim and tossed her away in

a suitcase only get 8 years in prison while another guy along with 8 other

car bombers who was tried "in absentia" got 46 years in prison.  If they can

try this guy and 8 others in absentia, why can't they try the Red Bull heir

in absentia...oh yeah Thaksin was tried and convicted in absentia too.  Thaksin

of course we know why but I really fail to see why the Red Bull heir continues

to await the dropping of charges due to his non appearance - seems money is

not the sole reason, politics plays a bit in the games played too.  I am glad that

they continue to track some bad guys but wish they tracked all of them and were

successful in bringing them to justice.  My opinion anyway.

Totally agree with your comments/opinions. Red Bull heir must have connections at a very high level, no surprise there!

Sentenced in absence to 46 years ? Probably take them that long to track him down.

46 years for maybe killing someone and 8 years for killing someone? Now if the bomb that they have made gone off and someone died should their sentence be reduced to 8 years?

It seems the guy was arrested, pleaded guilty and was sentenced. Whereas the other eight are still at large. The OP is not clear on that but the linked report goes into more detail.

A suspect was later arrested by the police and charged with terrorism, criminal association and violation of the firearms and explosives law. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to a total of 46 years in prison.

So what happen to the 50% reduction if you plead guilty--was his sentence 92 years before he pleaded Guilty ?
