The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has forecast that between 7 and 10 million foreign tourists will visit Thailand this year, which will generate about 1.5 trillion baht in revenue for the country, according to Government Spokesman Thanathorn Wangboonkongchana.

1,359,056 foreign tourists have already visited Thailand since the beginning of this year and the TAT expects that arrivals will increase to about half a million a month during the third quarter, instead of 300,000 as earlier projected, and up to one million a month during the fourth quarter, which is the high season, he said.

He attributed the increase in foreign arrivals to the relaxation of travel restrictions, including the recent scrapping of all quarantine measures, although the ”Thailand Pass” is still required for non-Thai arrivals.

Like the road accident statistics this has been done to death… meaninglessly. Can we not just move onto something that doesn’t induce a coma of Groundhog Day boredom ?

Dreamer's,,,! every day they come up with a number and every day they get it wrong. First of all I'd get rid of the mandate that you have to be vaccinated to enter Thailand,it's costing you thousands of potential tourists.

Well we haven't had a ridiculous prediction for a couple of months now! Looks like some idiot, in that office, has just found the tourist calculator and put fresh batteries in it.

1.4m + (3 x 500000) + (3 x 1m) = 5.4m

Even by their own fanciful figures the total doesn't even reach the low point of 7m.

Quel surprise...

10 mio tourist generate 1.5 trillion baht, that means one tourist has to spend 150,000 baht, or 4,400 USD... This is so exaggerated, but then I realized that the TAT includes the value of one gold necklace donated per tourist in these numbers, so well done the TAT.

They are at it again. Don't TAT understand that smoking weed with more than a trace of THC content is illegal ?

Expects, forecasts, projects. They just cycle the words around, and we keep clicking on them.

Yes, I've noticed that, too.  The numbers they tout seem to vary from day to day but every time I add them up they don't reach the low point they are predicting.  A few days ago they said Thailand would average 500,000 tourists a month in 2022 with 7 to 10 million tourists for the year.  500,000 a month is only 6 million a year--a million short of the 7 million low point.

What we do know is there were 1,360,000 international tourists thru May.  That leaves 7 months to attract 8,640,000 tourists to achieve the 10 million figure.  That's 1,234,000 a month--higher than their prediction of 1 million a month for just the 4th quarter months.

For the low 7 million figure, they need to attract 5,640,00 tourists to hit that mark.  That comes to 805,000 a month.  January thru May they were averaging 272,000 a month.  The low 7 million figure seems very high--and, highly unlikely.

Better talk to candidate Anutin he is touting 10,000 in a few days that is without lifting TP,  TAT prediction 10 million how is that going to happen?  Are we expecting massive illegal border crossing? ????

Flight prices seem to be ridiculous right now from many places, let's see how long that will remain an issue.

Many Western countries seem to expect that Covid will flare up again in winter, which is also hard to predict.

I'd be very careful with predictions, but then again, it's the TAT we're talking about.

But as usual we have no idea of the breakdown of figures. How many are returning to families? How many are transiting to go onwards? I am off to UK end of June and returning end of July so am I included in this forecast? As everyone says, it is figures just plucked out of thin air with no basis in facts whatsoever.

Always have counted numbers of arrivals.

Yes, booking well in advance seems to be the only way around current high prices.

Covid will possibly flare up in winter as does the flu, and hopefully be nothing more to worry about.

Making predictions is what they do, likely all they do!

It will be a hard sell to get drunk guys kicked out of the nightlife early to put masks on.

UK seems to have given up reporting Covid.

Pattaya has an impressive number of foreign tourists at the moment, but with Chinese people still unable to travel and impact of the Ukraine war, most of the foreign tourists are Indian men. That fits Thailand's stated focus on Indian tourists, but I seriously doubt they are spending anywhere near TAT's fantasy spend.

I think the only folks truly celebrating are the owners of Pattaya's Indian restaurants, although I've heard the soapy massage places are doing a slick bit of business these days too ????

one moment please, that the airpors can serving 10 000.000 persons in a year, may be but not tourists, nuancing is necerssary.
