Popular Post snoop1130
Digital lottery ticket sales for the June 16th draw, by the Government Lottery Office, apparently adversely affected many lottery vendors, who found they had many unsold tickets yesterday, forcing some to sell them at a discount to clear their stocks before the draw. A set of two tickets, which are usually sold at 200 baht, which is above the 160-baht set price, were sold for 180 baht yesterday, while a set of five tickets, which can normally fetch a price between 700 and 800 baht, were sold for 500 baht by a number of vendors, according to a field survey by Thai PBS. One vendor, at a market behind the Finance Ministry, said that she thought many had bought online lottery tickets in early June and could not afford to buy more from the vendors, adding that the rain yesterday morning (Thursday) might have discouraged customers from venturing out. BangkokReady
I was actually really surprised online sales were allowed. Most street based businesses in Thailand have a "mafia" element that facilitate price-fixing and prevent competition. I guess this is not (or no longer?) the case with lottery tickets. Does anyone know why the lottery has been singled out for this sort of "gouge protection"?
bbko
In the states we can buy lottery tickets at local 7/11s, convenience stores, supermarkets, etc. There isn't an army of people walking/sitting around just selling tickets. Time for the vendors to find a new line of work. 1 1

It won't be easy for many of the lottery sellers as they are disabled and this is one of the few jobs that they can do,

Try leaving the big cities and get out into the countryside where there are many disabled vendors selling lottery tickets. Just because you haven't seen one, doesn't mean that they don't exist.
Elkski
So they still openly tell reporters that they overcharge. I know my Thai woman just accepted this as normal. Can anyone explain to me how your redeem a winning number? I was told you go back to the seller and he determines his and your cut. But I know there are two lottery systems running. 2

In the past I've won 4,000b, gave the ticket to my wife, she went to a local lottery shop and received all 4k, no vendor "cut" given.
Popular Post RichardColeman
Said it before, stick a lottery booth in a 7/11 and be done with it. Employ a disabled person to man it during day hours. Let the other sellers get real jobs.

wombat
So the sellers are the biggest gamblers? 1 they gamble they will sell all their tickets. 2 they gamble that any tickets they don't sell are winning tickets to cover their loss. Curious asks...am I correct? Edited June 18, 2022 by wombat

IAMHERE
Can these 'unsold' tickets be the numbers that eventually get drawn; so that no winning ticket is sold ?

Popular Post jcmj
They have no one to blame but themselves and their greed. Sell the tickets at the correct prices and you’ll still have your business. 3
jaiyenyen
Why shouldn't the lottery sellers make a profit? They provide a service by selling the product either near, or taking it to, the customers. No-one complains when other businesses add on a margin for profit. As has been said before. Many of the sellers would find it difficult to find other employment. 1

phetpeter
Each city should set up a department that allots tickets forsale, only to registered disabled, who inturn must sell at the correct price...80 baht. If found to sell wholesale to others then they lose the right right. There is a legal system that vendor selling overpriced tickets can be banned. Each seller purchases the tickets at a trade price allowing them to recieve a profit which I believe is about 10 baht per ticket sold, so every 2 weeks a vendor with a 1000 tickets would make 20k per month. Not bad for sitting around. Those who jumped on the band wagon, buy at 80baht sell at 100baht, make double that! and that only on a 1000 tickets! think about a high traffic location and incresed sales. ....Why am I working so hard? 1
bbko
Anyone know how much the street vendors pay for their batch of tickets? Are they paying 80b per tickets or are they getting them at a wholesale price?

There is an allocation of lottery tickets set aside by the GLO specially for disabled vendors and when there were street demonstrations against the on line sales idea , most of the protestors were disabled folk. Also some of them have non visible handicaps. Just because YOU haven't seen one, it doesn't mean they are not there. 3

Are they paying 80b per tickets or are they getting them at a wholesale price? Depends on if you are talking about people who have a license or not. Licensed sellers pay 74 Baht per ticket to the government, and they are supposed to sell them for 80. They can return unsold tickets to the government. Then there are sellers who get tickets from those licensed sellers and try to sell them on. These usually have to pay 90 Baht per ticket (This gives them the option to return unsold tickets to their bosses), and will then usually sell them for 100 Baht. Selling a ticket for more than 80 Baht is illegal in any case. Edited June 18, 2022 by FriendlyFarang 2
proton
Probably the worst value lottery in the world considering what you pay and what you can win. I have nothing to do with any lotteries after missing out on the Euro millions in April ????

It's middle men buying job-lots from the primary selling agents and them selling them on to the vendors at profit. Vendors have no choice but but to put their prices up if they want to make a living. The government and the police know about this and have tried to close down these intermediaries several times, but the keep spring up again.
