Thailand - Uk Phone Calls (cheap!)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Next month I will be moving to Thailand for 5 month. I'd like to keep contact with the folks at home (N.Ireland) for as cheap as possible, would anyone be able to advise a decent call card to use?

I've been scouring the internet for good deals, but cant find many that arnt a rip! :o

I'd probably use Skype if I could, but I'll be moving around quite a bit and will have unreliable internet access.

Many thanks,

Paolo. :D

Local SIM card(HAPPY) for your mobile telephone. Dial 009 44 ******** for calls to NI for £0.10p per minute.

I've been using Skype for quite a while from my computer at home here in Thailand, and I'm pretty happy with it, especially as it only costs about 80 stang a minute to phone N.A., the destination I usually call. Sometimes it seems the connection is more like a walkie-talkie (you speak then I speak) but clarity is always quite good (and often it works like a proper phone). I'm certainly not trying to sell you or anybody on this service, but I remember seeing an article on the net somewhere titled "Skype on a Stick" that explained how to put the application on a thumb drive (complete with contacts) and use it at internet cafes while traveling. If you search for the phrase I mentioned or something similar, I'm sure you'll find some relevant information.

I think you can also make standard TOT calls for 6 or 7 baht a minute by using a dialing prefix (007 or 008 -- maybe somebody can confirm this for you). Anyway, it's a heck of a lot cheaper to make overseas calls now than it was when I first arrived in Thailand. Depending on how many times you plan to phone home, it may not be worth hunting around for the best phone card. Enjoy your time here.

Forget about skype.

Go to the site www.voipbuster.com

It works exactly the same as skype

but if you deposit 10euros you will

have free calls for 180 days (this is only for landlines)

so if you're calling mobiles you can check their rates on

the site. You can many countries for free, Ive used it for

quite awhile and have no complaints what so ever.

Cheers.
