The historic Progressive Liquor Bill could become law before the end of 2022, a parliamentarian who introduced the new Bill told Thai Enquirer on Monday.

Move Forward MP Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, one of the key proponent of the bill, told Thai Enquirer by phone that the draft still had to make its way through a committee before a second and third reading but that he was feeling ’positive.’

A 25-member committee was set up to scrutinise the Bill after it passed its first reading last week.

If passed, the Progressive Liquor Bill would allow Thais to practice homebrewing and for small and medium breweries to enter the alcohol market.

Just imagine the Thailand of the future where utopia really does exist.  Every home and village growing and smoking their own drugs and brewing and drinking their own hooch.

Fingers crossed that this somehow gets through.

The lack of choice here for decent beers is an embarrassment.

He forgets one thing.  The bill has to get past Cha Cha's hand picked senate.

That would be a good idea, maybe they get competition  and lower the taxes on wine for that reason.

Yes, yes, I know your answer.

Wow!! With legalized marijuana and now the possibility of "high gravity" local beers, will Thailand become the hub of being stoned???

Chiang and Singhas beer monopoly must end.

Every bar is just a front for a brothel in Thailand.

Is that a good idea? I have my doubts.

As far as I know there are huge possible problem if people drink the wrong kind of alcohol.

Quality control and enforcement of laws and regulations is not exactly a strength of Thailand ...

Craft beer to challenge the sh*t forced on us by a monopoly...

I can see a backlash against this by certain families.

More of a monopoly.
