New study recognises the Thai capital’s affordability, connectivity, transportation, and fantastic cuisine.

TAT Newsroom

Bangkok – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to report that Bangkok has been ranked the second best city in the world and the best city in Asia for digital nomads, in a new study by UK-based flexible working solutions provider The Instant Group.

Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said “This is a wonderful accolade for both Bangkok and Thailand, recognising as it does the Thai capital’s modernity, connectivity, and affordability attributes. It is even more rewarding when considering how well it complements Thailand’s goal of growing its digital nomad travel sector under the ‘Visit Thailand Year 2022: Amazing New Chapters’ campaign.”

Second only in the world to Lisbon, Portugal in the global ranking of 80 cities for digital nomads, Bangkok scored well in the key areas of affordability, weather, broadband speed, scenery, and transport. Its impressive placing was helped by the wide variety of excellent local cuisine and street food on offer, the more than 15,000 high-speed Wi-Fi hotspots available, great transport options, and some of the lowest priced accommodation available globally.

Bangkok was also one of only two Asian cities to make it into the survey’s top 10 cities from around the world, the other being Seoul in 7th place.

Research has shown there are already 35 million digital nomads worldwide, and with advances in technology, remote working and workplace culture it is thought that by 2035, this number could be one billion. Predictions say the global nomadic workforce will account for one in every three employees.

Alongside Bangkok, Thailand also offers other popular destinations ideal for digital nomads, such as Phuket, Samui, and Chiang Mai.

Not to mention that the so-called digital nomad remote working is technically illegal. (open to debate,,,)  They really do need to have a change in the law to be crystal clear about digital nomads in Thailand working for or deriving income from foreign entities.

This is a company that only employs a grand total of 250 people - WORLDWIDE !! The fact the company f=does not appear to have a main office in Bangkok speaks volumes also

I like Bangkok alot. And it is affordable for a major world capital.

However, the digital nomad part is fairly nonsensical, especially since immigration has not gotten it's sorry act together to address the relevant visas. Again, it is the TAT, vs. immigration. And the TAT will do or say anything to appear to be accomplishing something, for a change.

Best city in the world for a digital nomad is one where he/she can work unimpeded by distractions. Allow me to suggest that any city in China where you can be locked up for months on end, is the city every digital nomad is looking for.

This wouldn't happen to be another internal self opinionated survey would it?

Oops no..

A London based company that rents office space..

Err right...

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I am surprised they didn't say Detroit was number 1 due to the low crime rate. Really ,there are some very nice and well laid out city's in this world but none of the above gets my vote.

I'm trying to secure sponsorship, please help me!!!

I will name this website as the greatest in the Universe if you let me post one ad!!!

I will name Detroit, MI as the greatest city in the World if I get a free hamburger.

I will name America as the best place to get an abortion if I get a free subscription.

These "best" lists are really, really, really 20-years overdone.    Please come up with

better lists.  I didn't read the article, only trolling the headline.

OMG we were thinking the exact same thing at the exact same moment in the exact same Universe.

When it comes to ranking government will use it to their advantage what they don't like sweep it under the rock that is the solution to fix it.

When I see all the wires hanging I'm concluded long time ago service would be good????

These rankings are done by a guy who came for a few days got comp at the best hotel, dined at the top places and provided the best pussy Bangkok has to offer bonus a bag of goodies????

I would like to know who voted for this the fact Thailand was shut to most people up until a month ago ????

What??? Why didn´t they go for No 1 this time? If they need to lie, they can at least do it good.

Wonder how much TAT paid for that kind review ......

Does any body listen to this waste of space  authority  (TAT)

This sounds like music to the ears of the venerable Cha-cha.

Cha-cha is so happy that he must be dancing the Cha-cha-cha...

Exactly why I chose this city to live  - at ground zero that is - with everything outside my front door.

International airport and great coastal locations and islands close by.

Utterly amazing, I can't cope. Perhaps you should get together and make duplicate sandwiches, that would surely rock the entire universe.

Don't forget the thousands of scabby soi dogs!

Today I learned that Bangkok has excellent weather and scenery.

Maybe they mean inside an aircon room and looking at the ladies?

Haha, a city I cannot wait to escape/pass through...never been more worn down in a city as Bangkok moving through it outside...pollution/humidity/noise/ugliness....more nonsense polls.

Plenty better capital cities out there...

Well that surprised me I am in a state of shock as must be many on Thai visa have we all been wrong all these years ????

Guess the days of Chiang Mai as the digital nomad hub have since passed...
