It is possible that the wedding was booked after the British woman had booked her stay. That could explain why they sent the letter (probably email) after she had booked her room. It would be unreasonable for the hotel to turn down the hotel booking for the wedding as that is how they make money. They could have offered to refund her booking, but that would have meant they had to offer that to all the other guests at the hotel besides the wedding, which would not make sense from a business standpoint. They did comp her several other services, which she accepted. As for it being a five star hotel- I have been to numerous Thai hotels listed as four star hotels that would be one or two stars elsewhere. So, it is probable that this five star hotel was less than that. I think that this woman had an idea of her stay that didn't turn out the way she had idealized it, so she made a big deal about it and complained.
