Thailand’s opposition warned against debating Myanmar warplane incursion

Government chief whip Nirote Sunthornlekha has warned the opposition that the plan by some of its MPs to question the government over last week’s incursion by a Myanmar MiG-29 jet into Thai airspace, over Tak province, may undermine the country’s national security, which could be deemed a criminal offence.

Calling the plan nonsensical, he said today (Monday) that the incident is not a big deal and that the Thai government has already protested through diplomatic channels and that the incident has not damaged the relationship between the two neighbours.

He said he doubts whether the opposition wants Thailand to declare war on Myanmar over the incident.

I think maybe Myanmar knows that most of the recent weapons purchases don't have any propulsion units.

This is where the soo called Thai democracy fails. All questions asked inside parliament should not be subject to the same ludicrous defamation and soo called national security limits.

So a discussion would be a criminal offense.....holy feces batman, the chief whip has laid an egg.  Me thinks he shat all over himself with this statement.

Civil war in Myanmar and aircraft use the Thai airspace to attack..If Thailand want to be neutral as they always say, they have to respond and forbid the planes over flying in the Thai airspace. But the same with the Russian oil. Thailand says to be neutral but will buy Russian Oil..There are surely tourists who will avoid a country that says to be neutral but act differently.

Thailand's national oil and gas company has just taken over full control of the biggest gas field in Burma.

Today, I read on a news website – forgot which one – that Russia gives military aid to Myanmar. Perhaps the Thai government does not want to upset Putin unnecessarily.

In Europe, Russia often makes incusions into the air space of nearby countries to test their response and the palititians of the opposition parties make no fuss about it in the parliament.

It's just a warning not to investigate someone being asleep at the wheel.

"The incident is not a big deal", but talking about it "may undermine the national security"...

They obviously can't make up their mind.

But do they drop or fire munitions inside the other country like this incident

That's one way of silencing the opposition party, veiled threats of potential criminal offences. Junta cousins looking after each other.

Threats and more threats.

What national security?? IMO if there had been local "national security" this incursion would not have occurred!!!

Can't talk about it why then do they have a parliament without debate oh yeah that's right it's run by the army

You couldn't make this up.

The opposition is warned not bring up things about National Security as it might affect National Security.

You mean it's criminal to question why our military--meaning our govt--failed to defend Thailand's sovereign kingdom by shooting the enemy out of the air?!?

Do you really think the warplane crossed into thai airspace  without prior permission?
