Royal Thai Police chief Pol Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk yesterday issued an order to prevent any police smoking marijuana or using marijuana and hemp products at police stations and on any police property.

The chief cited regulations issued by the Ministry of Public Health regarding annoyance from smoke as a basis for the blanket ban.

The order also made it clear that station chiefs and heads of section were to advise all under their command to refrain from recreational use of ganja and to avoid any activity that may bring the force into disrepute.

The public, too, cannot smoke, or vape or use extracts when contacting police at stations or on police property, reported Thai Rath.

Thailand decriminalized marijuana on June 9th and is in the process of formulating laws by a house committee that is due to report by September.

In the meantime various organisations - now the RTP - have issued their own restrictions on use according to their property and procedures.

Well that's an announcement I never thought I would see issued to a a police force.   Police shouldn't smoke weed in the Police Station. Sort of stating the obvious.

Why are the police being discriminated against or do they really know and accept that it is actually bad for some users!

A commissioned police officer and rugby team mate of my neighbor recently brought along a huge brick of weed weighing almost 1kg to one of the training sessions. It apparently was part of "a huge haul intercepted at the Thai-Myanmar border", my neighbor said. The brick was then brotherly divided among all team members. Needless to say that no training took place that day.

Lends an entirely new ring to "recreational use" and "bringing the force into disrepute", huh?

It's like saying there should be no muder of prisoners in Police stations.. oh wait a minute........

I would hope they wouldn’t think of doing it.

ha ha thats funny

Well Mr. Chief Obvious, if the police force must be warned, better extend your warning to hospitals, ambulance drivers, military on duty, MP's sitting in Parliament, travelling motorbike/auto taxi drivers, etc.

Now we know why they a building these little Smoke boxes, sorry Police boxes in Jomtien Pattaya.

They're silly enough without the ganja.

Isn't it Illegal to use the Weed that has a THC content higher than 0.2 % ?

I bet that all the stuff what's for sale other than the Chaff  (and who's gonna smoke that) has a THC content higher than 0.2 %

Any recreational use would then be Illegal being that for the public And the Police Right.

Who's enforcing this Law may you ask, Well uh uh No one.  ????

A ridiculous statement, of course they are not being discriminated against,, did you think they were allowed to drink at work too? of course they are not allowed to. Neither is anybody else, except perhaps bargirls and beer/wine tasters . And  no, its nothing to do with "accepting that its actually bad for some users" Its just common sense and part of trying to maintain a professional image.

In any case all police stations like all public buildings are no smoking zones, or haven't you noticed

The essence of the order though is clear as daylight Its  (stlll) not illegal for the rest of society so if the police can accept it so should you

Don,t smoke in the station, but we will provide a space outside or at the back if needed

Correct they cannot smoke inside the buildings but they can in the car parks etc.  But they cannot use the cr&p anywhere on Police property.   A big difference in rules.

No it is not, only extracts need to be < 0.2%  were have you been for the last month? I don't even know why I'm bothering to tell you this

It says nowhere on Police property!

Its not "<deleted>" nobody is talking about "<deleted>" Its cannabis

Do you not think that dinking alcohol in the carpark would be frowned upon ? of couse it would so its not really a big difference in rules is it ?   And for the love of god do you really honestly believe that due to the recent decriminalisation, that everybody, including the police,  ( but obviously not you)  will now be smoking cannabis at every opportunity , You really don't have a clue do you?

Yeah right on man but keep those brown envelopes  full..

Oh, yeah," said Gen Suwat Chaengyodsuk, "and don't be takin' it on international flights, either. Real police in other countries don't like that."

This must be one of the very few countries in the world where the police chief has to remind his minions to refrain from drugs while on duty. What about a lil shot of whiskey to help get through the dull days of exhausting law enforcement?

Been here for many years but I still can't believe some of the stuff that goes on.
