Thai lawmakers have approved a bill that will give some offenders the right to choose chemical castration as a means of tackling sex crimes in return for a reduced prison sentence.

A Court handed down a two months suspended sentence to Parit "Penguin" Chiwarak and Juta-hip Siri-khan for violating the COVID-19 Emergency Decree, both had led a rally at Bangkok’s  Cultural Center in 2020. The two were also fined 10,000 baht and 12,000 baht. They will appeal.

Parliament President and House speaker Chuan Leekpai was taken to hospital yesterday after testing positive for Covid 19,  The 83 year old suffered a sore throat but no temperature, and is in satisfactory condition.

The Ministry of Transport has instructed the MRT not to continue with the next round of bidding for the Orange Line due to take place on the 27th July.

 

The order came after last week's  Court ruling that the MRTA's cancellation of the first round of bidding was unlawful. The next round of bidding is being delayed while last weeks ruling is being considered by the courts.

Ferry services resumed yesterday between Kho Samui and Kho phangan after severe weather earlier forced the cancellation of services and all ships were advised to shelter in port. Sea conditions in the gulf remain choppy.

 

Severe weather also caused damage in several parts of the south, flattening homes and uprooting fruit and rubber trees.
