July 16, 20223 yr Popular Post Let me begin with a disclaimer of intent to discredit in any way the Dr. Green Cannabis Dispensary in Chang Mai. I went in last week looking for THC edibles... nothing there except two medium-sized cookies below an array of cello envelopes containing exotic looking bud at astronomical prices sold by the gram which is a piddling little amount. Taking a pass on the cookies, I impulsively bought a gram of "Mandarin" pressed bud for 550 baht... which was low-balling it pricewise. A suggestion to the owners of Dr. Green's: A welcome addition to your stock-in-trade would be local produce offered for sale at much lower prices that reflect local market conditions. Fear not, there will always be those who are willing to pay extra for a premium product. By offering choices of price and quality you likely won't lose money, but probably will make more in the long run with fully satisfied regular customers. All the best.
July 16, 20223 yr Prices are coming down, which I'd guess has something to do with more plants harvested (especially with higher-yield sativa plants- sativa strains tend to be cheaper than hybrids or indicas)- on LINE shopping, what was 700bt per gram last month is starting to show up for 550bt or less, and some 'name' strains are available for under 300bt per gram. Like SRB said, give it some time. There are always going to be 'hiso' places that sell at a higher price, but that's true with pretty much everything.
July 17, 20223 yr Thanks for the informative post. Oldtimers in Chiang Mai will remember when ganja was very easy to buy almost everywhere... in town, in the countryside, in hilltribe villages and on trips to the islands wherever you were it was there. Often in the form of Thai Stick and pretty potent as well as dirt-cheap, The GIs reportedly loved it. Long before the War on Drugs there were laws against it nationwide but they were selectively [$] enforced, if enforced at all. The War on Drugs changed all that and introduced draconian measures to be taken against the "Surging Drug Abuse" they saw everywhere. Malaysia wuz worse... who can forget those large billboards shouting DADA IS DEATH...? But this merciless crackdown had so many bad consequences in Thailand that the governing powers seem to be coming to their senses and letting it be traded locally. How long this Freedom/Honeymoon lasts remains to be seen.
July 18, 20223 yr High Queen CNX 19 Wichayanon Rd. just off Thapae has a large selection of pricey primo bud. A fair amount of expensive edibles... but say hey, when are these crazy prices coming down? But to their credit they have on their bill of fare a choice of "Ganja Muang" - Chiang Mai bud - and a couple of other closely related local types. At 200 baht per gram it was priced right and didn't fail to please.

July 18, 20223 yr in Canada legal weed from legal shops prices were higher than the black market that legalization was designed to eliminate or weaken. Prices were high in the beginning when the novelty drew many customers, but a few years later the prices have dropped and many shops are struggling to survive. Good quality bud for about $5/gram or less. Black market better than the shops $4/gram. The prices will drop when fad/novelty factor ends and competition increases in Thailand. How many people can afford current prices? Export quality Laos brick is much better value.
July 18, 20223 yr I would also speculate that the big growers (who hit the market first) are setting the minimum prices that the middle-men can sell their product for. Now that other growers are seeing yields, prices for particular strains vary, and you can shop around (quality can certainly vary as well, of course). For example, 'Bruce Banner' (a popular sativa-dominant hybrid) can be found on LINE shopping from 320 baht to 900 baht per gram depending on the shop/grower. If you're interested in a particular strain, do a search, or a generic search for 'Indica' or something similar. The prices have been steadily coming down (as noted above), as there's now more competition.

No doubt prices will keep coming down until the gov't laws and taxes begin. As often mentioned, this is the honeymoon period. Enjoy it to the full because it won't last. That said, there is a slight possibility that a local trade in ganja in the form of herbal medicine, edibles, and premium bud will be left alone with only the minimum of regulation. It's never dull here.
