Sanook Thai Caption: The moment of the accident

Chana Songkram police suspect that a young driver fell asleep at the wheel of his car in an early morning accident caught on CCTV.

The accident can be viewed here on the Sanook site.

The media said that it happened outside the Supreme Court in the jurusdiction of the Chana Songkram police at 6 am Sunday.

The CCTV showed a Honda City that veered across traffic narrowly missing oncoming cars.

It then smashed into poles and trees damaging signage as well.

Seriously injured at the scene were 23 year old Surachai and 22 year old Paramet who were taken to Siriraj and Taksin hospitals respectively, reported Sanook

Police said it looked like "lap nai" or so called microsleep where overtired drivers drop off at the wheel momentarily with devastating consequences.

Another case of nothing to see here officer. Next!

No brake failure?

No mention of whether they were tested for drink/drugs. No, it must be microsleep and thank you for the generous donation.

Just a BS excuse to cover up poor driving behaviors - really laughable to avoid driver accountable at all costs

It does not cover up anything, neither prevents them to face justice for it. And in fact, many accidents here are microsleep aside of alcohol. Anyone who used minivans, taxi's often enough, could testify to that.

not again.......am sick of reading vain excuses re thai drivers........!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Microsleep suspected ?........ Too much paperwork or Lazy-itus to be anything else i guess

It's also called "glancing at their phones" but the old "micro sleep" excuse seems more face-saving to them...why I dont know !!

I'm rapidly thinking noddle's must be the real culprit in this epidemic of zzzzz ????

It's the same when they find a body in a room

that has not been disturbed , it's always naturel

causes , before any investigation is done , so there

could be a very tidy serial killer out there .

Micro sleep , no need to investigate further.......

Microsleep does not absolve drivers of blame or accountability in accidents such as this, why would you clam that it does?
