Monkeypox remains of concern but not on danger list

Thailand's health authorities have not changed the status of monkeypox from a disease of concern to a dangerous disease.

 

Dr Jakrarat Pithayawonganon of the department of disease control said after a meeting that he recognised that the WHO had designated the disease as an emergency.

 

But he stressed that Thailand needed more data before and health guideline upgrades and that at present the country was completely able to handle the situation as regards monkeypox. 

 

He said that upgrading monkeypox to a danger list would mean accepting that symptoms were dangerous and spread was fast - this was not the case with monkeypox so it remains on the watchlist of diseases, reported Thai Rath.

Is this not the way the pandemic should have been at the beginning? I have always said the cure was worse than the disease. IMO that was and is the case.
