topswijaya Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Dear all, If you arrive at airport and get 30-day visa exemption, can you extend it to 6-month one inside Thailand? I don't want to do visa run every 30 days. https://wellington.thaiembassy.org/th/publicservice/19038-visa-exemption Thanks
DrJack54 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 No You can only obtain one 30 day extension per entry from a visa exempt or tourist visa.
ubonjoe Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 You can extend a 30 day visa exempt entry for 30 days at a immigration office. That embassy webpage is way out of date like many others. It mentions the old 90 days in 6 months rule that was rescinded in 2008.

Note: you can only obtain 2 visa exempt entries by land per calendar year. You need state how long you wish to stay in Thailand for best advice 1
topswijaya Posted July 31, 2022 Author Posted July 31, 2022 Thanks. I want to stay for 1 year. What is the cheapest option without visa run ( by plane)?

Obviously you have your own reasons for excluding border runs to obtain a tourist visa or visa exempt. Non-ed studying eg Thai has requirements. You should at least consider METV. Note with a METV each entry gives 60 day stamp and that can be extended by 30 days. An metv can give you up to almost 9 months stay. After that you can do border runs to take it up to 12 month stay. You could also enter with a SETV and obtain extension. By then obtaining another tourist visa (eg Vientiane) and extension makes 6 months. Etc. Clearly you must be under 50 as a non O retirement would be best option. 2
topswijaya Posted July 31, 2022 Author Posted July 31, 2022 with METV you still have to leave Thailand every 60 days

I already outlined that. In any event you have few options above. If they don't suit then find a more flexible country. You could even buy an PE visa. Pricey 1
BritTim Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I would just add that an METV might well be your best option, though you need to get this from your home country before coming to Thailand. A border bounce by land every 90 days is really not that onerous. From anywhere in Thailand, it is a same day process. 1
jnp73 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Hi, A student here wants to stay 45 days after the end of his tourist visa. What's his easiest option? 30 day extension, followed by visa run for visa exemption? Or border run to get new tourist visa? If the latter, where to go?

Obtain 30 day extension to current permit followed by border run.. 2. Do border run and obtain 30 day extension to that visa exempt entry. 3. Obtain tourist visa at nearby consulate eg Vientiane. Option 1or 2 best. 1
jnp73 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Hi Dr Jack54, It now appears that this student has a Non 'O' Volunteer Visa not a tourist one. Will be be able to renew/extend it at the Immigration Office without leaving the country? Regards John

jnp73 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Next question. He doesn't have his TM6 departure card with him. Is it an essential pice of information? 1

If you have questions I suggest you start with new thread Also best for your friend to post directly. As for your last last question regarding TM6.... They were only suspended approx July 2. Your friend should have a tm6 from previous entry and it could be asked for.
