Leaving job, need to stay in Thailand longer than 7 days afterwards. What do?

Recommended Posts

Title.  American with Non-B Visa attached to work permit, planning to leave local job at the end of September, need to stay in-country until at least end of October.

As I understand it, my visa will be void the same day my employment is officially terminated (Sep 30th via visit to Immigration Office with employer rep, signed letters, et al), and I can at that point request a 7 day extension of stay from the officer to "wrap things up."  How can I best use those 7 days to secure an extra month+ stay?  Can I just run to the border and back one day and get a Visa-Exempt stay for 30 days, or is there more to it?

Applicants for Elite visas within Thailand are forced into the same quandry because they must cancel any other valid visa they posess at their local immigration office  before going to Chaeng Wattana to get the Elite stamp. If something does not go right, (maybe a positive covid test or some objection or delay at the local office), they risk being forced into an overstay situation.

If you qualify for Visa Exempt entry, yes you can. Not sure where you are located but Visa Runs to the border are available in Bangkok and Pattaya etc, although they surely have cut back and I advise calling them up.
