Pitiful tale of abuse in NE: Mother says son wanted to starve her to death for her house/land - but he dies first

Thai Rath reported on a truly pitiful story after a man was found dead in a house in the village of Ban Nong Bua Neua in the police jurisdiction of Satuek in Buriram, NE Thailand.

 

Thongdee, 57, had been dead at least 4 days and was covered in maggots. Neighbors had reported a terrible smell to Pol Lt-Col Charnchai Khamdeekert of the Satuek police. 

 

Near the deceased in a bed surrounded by a mosquito net was his bedridden mother Nuan, 82, who was oblivious to his demise.

 

All she would say to rescue personnel as they gathered up the remains of her son was that she was starving hungry and hadn't eaten for four days. 

 

She had survived only on tap water.

 

She claimed that her son had purposefully starved her because he wanted to get his hands on her house and land.

 

She said he was a habitual drunk who used her disability benefits to buy himself booze and then would beat her.

 

Sometimes he would eat in front of her and when she begged for food he'd just say: "Not for you".

 

She said they'd been living in the house together for ten years and had no other relatives.

 

A neighbor called Danita, 59, said that she had heard him deny her food and beat her.

 

She reported the matter to the police but when they arrived Nuan preferred not to press charges saying she "loved her son".

 

Neighbors were reluctant to go into the house to help the bedridden woman as she was suffering from tuberculosis. 

 

Thai Rath referred to the son with the name of "luuk thoraphee"; this refers to an ungrateful son from a Ramakian (Ramayana) legend about two buffalos.

Can't help wonder what role she played in making him ungrateful. Surprised there are no relatives as Thais have large families. Maybe bad blood among them.

What a terrible situation. However given her age, the duress she is under and potential age related dementia it would be silly to just accept her story as verbatim. 

 

She may believe exactly what she is stating but it could be a delusion.

 

I hope someone can look after her, poor thing.
