The Thai parliament on Wednesday, August 24th, voted in favor to pass the Prevention of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Bill for promulgation as law in a further step.

The voting ended with 287 votes in favor, 1 abstention, and 1 decided not to vote. The bill was passed and approved by the oppositional parties’ MPs despite the fact that it was slightly amended by the Senate in the previous committee consideration as it mainly seeks to criminalize torture and enforced disappearance by the state.

The bill will be passed to the Prime Minister for submission for a royal signature before being published in the official Royal Gazette for enacting the Act.

Prevention of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Bill passed its final consideration.

So the law is only to prevent it, not actually illegal to carrying it out. tit
