The bill would tax all solar users, current and future, when their solar panels (or batteries) power things like:

  • A fridge, air conditioner, wheelchair, or dialysis machine in a home
  • An irrigation pump on a farm
  • A science lab in a school
  • A heart monitor in a hospital
  •

To be clear, solar users with a battery will not be spared, not even during Public Safety Power Shutoffs.

OK the bill actually failed https://solarrights.org/sneakysolartax/ but it just shows what lengths big business will go to in order to protect their balance books.

We are happy to report that the authors of SB 846 have agreed to clarify in writing that the bill will not impose a Solar Tax on the solar energy you produce and consume at home. This means you no longer need to call or email your Senator or Assembly member!

Let's hope that the junta does not hear about this and try to impose something similar here in Thailand...

Don't give them any ideas. :whistling:

My country ( Belgium) has been taxing on solar for a few years now . They call it a "prosumer tariff" so you need to pay extra for the grid , which is 100% the same grid if you do not have solar panels .
