The Thai national flag at Government House is lowered to half-mast today (Friday), as Thailand expresses condolence for the passing of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said this morning that the flag is usually flown at half-mast for three days, to mourn the passing of the head of state of another country, and a member of the Thai Royal Family will attend the funeral.

He said that a government representative will be sent to sign the book of condolence at the British Embassy in Bangkok.

Yes indeed. Up until very recently the previous Thai king was the longest reigning monarch in living memory at 70 years and 126 days.

The Queen reigned for 70 years and 214 days, the Thai people had a great deal of respect for both monarchs.

Thank you Thailand for showing your respect for the late queen Elizabeth 11

However, I believe Louis XIV of France remains the longest-reigning monarch, with a 72-year and 110-day reign from 1643 until 1715.

Not that it matters.

Nice, got a lot of 2022 queen uk silver coins so that is gonna pay off.

Crass.

EDIT: and to the topic:  My place of employment also flew the flag at half mast today.  A wonderful and respectful gesture unlike the post I quote.

Sad comment under the circumstances.

Take it you had difficulty with the term "living memory".

No, I was just adding some historical context but thank you for reminding me.

I would very much doubt the Thai flag was at half mast for Louis XIV.
