You mean Russia hasn't wanted to take Odesa? Just like it didn't want to take Kiev?

And are you claiming that Ukrainian troops haven't captured Kupiansk and Izyum?

As expected, there is some back and forth in areas, but the overall map of Ukraine is getting smaller as Russia continues to take territory.

There is allot of speculation that Russia wants Odessa. Would probably make sense for them to take it…unless Ukraine gets back to the negotiating table soon.

Back and forth? 2 major military locations have just been taken from the Russians. Eyewitness reports said Russian troops fled. Their supply lines are gravely imperiled. I'm sure from a Russian point of view it has always made sense to take Odesa. So what's been standing in their way? What stood in their way that kept them from taking Kiev?

The only fly-in-the-ointment I can see for Russia, is that as they liberate larger and larger areas, they will be subject to the renegade attacks that have been seen recently. And unfortunately these attacks are hurting non-combatants unnecessarily. They are broadcast in the west's MSM as great advances - even victories - but in reality they are nothing of the sort. Just pin-pricks on a bear.

According to a respected American war/conflict/military analyst, the casualty for civilians is extremely low (25-1) and the casualty ratio for the conflict is in the order of 5-1.

As for taking Odessa. There is no rush from the Russians. The general feeling is that it will be the New Year before they put in a concerted advance.

No rush? As the USA pours increasingly advanced weapons systems into Ukraine, and Ukrainian troops keep on getting trained to a higher standard it looks to me like time is running out for the Russians. Unless they resort to nukes, which I wouldn't put past them. Keep in mind that the Ukrainians are fighting for cultural survival. The Russians have made very clear that they want not just to conquer Ukraine, but make its culture disappear.

Check the maps again, AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine) has liberated more territory in three days than Putin's troops captured in a four-month "offensive"

There is allot of fake propaganda “reports” out there on a daily basis. Who knows, perhaps the Ukrainians won a battle, or didn’t.

Focus on the territorial map and how it has changed month to month. Thats how you will know who is winning the war.

Russia could have easily destroyed ALL the  vital infrastructure of Ukraine in one or two days after the start of the war using airpower and missiles, but they didn’t. They obviously have a strategic plan for the conflict.

Russia will let us all know when they are done taking territory.

The Russian MOD (Ministry of Defeat) has already acknowledged the withdrawal of its troops from Balakliya and Izyum

This is truly bizarre. You mean they subjected their troops to months of misery (not to mention the Ukrainians) when they could have completed this in a few days? They lost lots of men and material in the early day of the war when they were advancing on Kiev and just decided not to go farther because that was part of their plan?

No rush at all. The Russians are not in the business of unnecessary hurting civilians.

Advanced weapons? What is not being sold off on the internet is being mostly destroyed before it reaches the front line. Some does get there, but is easily dealt with it seems. The west is simply handing weapons over with no audit trail.

The Ukrainians are not fighting for cultural survival. This is nonsense to say this. The areas liberated so far - and those soon to be - are mostly Russian speakers and supporters.

One of the aims of the special operation was to de-nazify the country. The three most Nazi battalions , Azov, Kracken, (can't remember what the other one is called) have been splintered, but not yet destroyed.

It's pretty likely that Russia will be the last to know. And the last to acknowledge their reversals. Time is definitely not on their side.

Ukrainian soldiers and their weapons are being destroyed faster than they can be trained/replaced.

Russia has many times more trained troops and much more sophisticated weapons in battle and in reserve. The russian equipment is as good or much better than anything the Ukrainians could ever get.

Most of the money being sent to Ukraine is disappearing. Most of the arms being sent to ukraine are being resold on the black market, and never make it to the soldiers. Its a giant money laundering wild west over there.

Is that why Russia had to go cap in hand to North Korea to buy its shells for their artillery recently?

This is of course Russian propaganda. Not even the Russians claim that their weaponry is superior to what the Ukrainians are getting from the West. In fact all this is just opposite to the facts. Tell us, what would be your criteris for conceding that the Russians are in retreat and losing control of territory?

Let's see how public opinion is after a winter of rising prices and misery in the cold. Time is not on the west's side.

Actually prices have been declining and natural gas storage has gone far better than expected. And most of the weaponry is coming from the USA.

If you google it, you can see objective comparison/analysis of equipment.

Russian has ample equipment and it is equal or superior in all cases. Thats a fact.

Because Russia has such an advanced economy? Because their chip technology is the equal of any other country in the world. In the wreckage of some of their fighter jets they found GPS devices meant for civilian use taped to their control panels. There is no way an economy as small as Russia's and so much of which depends on raw materials, can be as advanced as the western economies and the advanced asian economies are..

That's good then. All Europe has to do is get off their knees to the US and get the gas turned on to help their people. The pipes are waiting. Easy peasy.

The US couldn't care less about Europe. It just wants it to do as it's told. It's aim is to TRY to weaken Russia AMAP, in any way possible, They have not wanted to play ball since Pres Yeltsin sold off the family silver.

Normal for armies to manage inventory buy/sell. They have been trading weapons for decades.

Most observers don’t consider artillery shells as very “sophisticated”.

Since when has Russia bought artillery shells from North Korea before?  Maybe they could also ask NK for what’s needed to insert air bags into the cars their producing because they are currently manufacturing them without them.

you’ve obviously not heard of guided artillery shells then, shame Ukraine are using them in the HIMARS

Nobody even knows if the recent report of Russia buying shells from Korea is true, or just another false biden/nato propaganda report.

however, it would indeed be completely normal to trade arms among friends.

The problem is, that even if I were to google it, most of these evaluations took place before the Ukraine war. Now that the world has seen how the Russian soldiers and Russian materiel actually perform, the unanimous verdict, apart from a few besotted Russophiles, is that Russian military capability is greatly overrated.

Almost all neutral observers recognize that Russia is slowly and methodically taking territory and doing its best to avoid civilian casualties along the way.

The slow part saves civilians and unnecessary russian troop casualties.

biden/nato propagandist media will always do their best to downplay russian success.
