Government hands over right to work forest reserve land to people in Tak

BANGKOK (NNT) - The acting prime minister today visited Tak province to follow up on infrastructure and quality of life improvement projects in the province’s border area. He also checked on the water situation and on water source development programs in Tak’s Mae Sot district.

 

Acting prime minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon visited a community enterprise at Ban Mankhong housing estate in Mae Sot of Tak province. He was accompanied by Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn and Deputy Finance Minister Santi Promphat. The delegation was welcomed by locals who brought along their children and who held up welcome signs for the visitors.

 

Gen. Prawit handed over land use permits to the locals, who will now be able to live or make their living on forest reserve land. Identification documents for persons permitted to make their living in community areas were also handed over. The said documents were presented to 1,231 locals who resided in Chong Khaep and Mae Koen Kaen forests. The acting prime minister also spoke to locals about the government’s policy on giving people rights to work the land. He asked the rights receivers to utilize land to their utmost capability, saying this would contribute to sustainable national development.

 

Today’s (12 September) visit by the delegation was made difficult by constant downpours that caused several cars in the convoy to become stuck in the mud.

 

In the afternoon, Gen. Prawit inspected the water situation at Huai Mae Sot reservoir in Phra That Pha Daeng subdistrict in Mae Sot. He also inspected progress on water source development in the area and gave moral support to officials who worked there.

So there is no point to having forest reserves.

 

Now it will be cut down and built on.  All the animals and wildlife will be destroyed.  

 

The people knew it was illegal to build their home stays and other buildings on the reserve, did it anyways, and not are free to do even more damage. 

 

The area was attracting tourists for it's natural beauty..so they think destroying the natural beauty will attract more tourists in the future ?  Very short sighted and sad.

Wrong move . The forest needs protection from people .
