New Political Party Ready To Launch

Obnoxious is an understatement. They have clearly taken the stick approach here leaving the carrot for others.

If the PPP was a single person it would be easy to do a psychological profile on them. So this becomes a bit of a best guess profile:

The PPP voice at the moment clearly reflects anger and seeking revenge. There is no indication of redeeming qualities visible, just raw anger. There is no indication of concern for anyone else except themselves. It is easy to say this reflects Thaksin’s personality between July 2006 and the coup in September last year.

It would not surprise me in the least if the PPP used out and out violence to get in office by scaring anti Thaksin people from the polls.

On another note some of the TRT breakaway parties that have now come back citing lack of funds, it makes me wonder as they were all cut from the same cloth why some do and some don’t have money. It appears to be forced consolidation by whoever is funding the PPP.

There aint that many people who want to fund an election right now. it costs billions and is risky. Big business is only using evry limited funds and mostly to the Dems who do not play the transfer game anyway. We all know who funds PPP and that he is a risk taker. The ex-TRT groups closer to the military now are looking for cash. Chart Thai may be an option for them unless the military decide to engage in a transfer market policy with the T. It is probably cheaper to use other techniques to limit Ts money advantage however. I dont really think PPP can use violence even thoguh the party is packed with those who are quite adept at it. That would result in arrests, disbandment and no public sympathy.

On the other hand Thaksin has nothing to lose but his chains. From his position he MUST try to win the elections or kiss good-bye to the frozen billions.

BUT, he's also been less confrontational lately, maybe be realises that coming back with his tail between his legs is a better option.

When he first sent the wifey to beg mercy with Prem it didn't work, and he seriously misbehaved since then. Still, all he need to do is muster the courage to ask for forgiveness, not send attack dogs like Samak.

The problem is, you need to be a true leader to step over your ego and admit a mistake. Otherwise you are just a greedy merchant.

New Alternative Party Leader still unclear about his political future

Leader of the New Alternative Party, Pol.Capt.Chalerm Yubamrung (เฉลิม อยู่บำรุง), says he has yet decided to join other political groups or parties, adding that his political future will be clearer before October, 13th.

Samak's trip to monument in Isan canceled

(BangkokPost.com) - People's Power party leader Samak Sundaravej canceled his plan to pay respect to the Suranaree monument in Nakhon Ratchasima on Tuesday morning after he was unpleasantly greeted by more than 20 locals.

The protesters, who belong to the Love Korat group (or Pakimoanchon Konrakkorat group), condemned Mr Samak for having insulted people living in the northeastern region, being nominee of ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra and for taking part in the Oct 6, 1976 bloodshed.

They also attacked him for allegedly involving in corruption during his time as Bangkok governor.

After seeing the protesters, Mr Samak decided to call off the visit to the monument and headed back to the Sima Thani hotel.

But in another news from the Nation Chalerm is going to address people at PPP rallies in Isan. I don't know if it's been posted on TV.

"Paijit Sriworakhan, another executive member said he believed Chalerm Yoobamrung would assist the party's campaign in the Northeast.

He said the party members had asked Chalerm to make a speech, to which Chalerm agreed.

"He told us that he would be happy to address people in Isaan. He said he was always impressed when he visited the Northeast," said Paijit."

Deposed PM Thaksin Calls for Public Support for PPP

The People's Power Party begins to campaign for the upcoming election in its Northern stronghold. A source reveals that a VCD recording of the deposed prime minister's speeches are part of the group's giveaways

As political parties prepare for the December 23rd elections, the People's Power Party, known as the PPP and joined by many members of the disbanded Thai Rak Party, has kick started its election campaign in Chiang Mai. The area is known as a stronghold of the now-defunct Thai Rak Thai Party.

A source revealed that part of the PPP's electioneering involved giving away stacks of VCD recordings of the deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinnawatra's speeches. Pamphlets were also distributed promoting ex-Thai Rak Thai members and the PPP's Chiang Mai MP candidate, Surapong Towichakchaikul.

The VCD showed two-minute speeches made by ousted PM Thakssin. It also claimed he was unfairly treated with the coup and has been forced to live in exile.

The deposed prime minister asked voters to support the PPP MP candidates in the upcoming election and said he is ready to return home to help provide solutions if the PPP wins the election.

The source said more than 10,000 VCD's were handed out during the campaign to promote Surapong. So far however, no reports have come out about other PPP MP candidates using the same VCD during their campaign.

People's Power Campaigns for Next Election in Northeast

The leader of the People's Power party has hit the campaign trail early, to unveil 16 candidates for House seats in Nakorn Ratchasima province. He emphasized that money and canvassers will not play a big part of the party's campaign. :D

More than 30 members of the Korat Civic Group gathered to protest against People's Power party leader Samak Sundaravej's visit to Nakorn Ratchasima province at the Tao Suranaree Monument earlier on Tuesday.

The group put up banners condemning Samak, who once denounced Northeastern residents as uneducated.

Samak, who was scheduled to pay respects at the Tao Suranaree Monument, canceled his trip there after being told that protesters had gathered. :D

The People's Power party leader also gave a lecture on the 'New Constitution and Thailand's Future' at Simathani Hotel before more than 1,000 Nakorn Ratchasima residents, candidates, and senior party figures such as Surapong Suebwonglee and Adisorn Piengkate.

Samak said that while in Nakorn Ratchasima, he would unveil the party's 16 candidates for House seats in the province.

Samak says the party has not set any goal for the number of seats it expects to win in the province, but says the party will not use canvassers. :D:o

He says the party will emphasize transport policies and promote the industry sector. The party will also carry on the now-dissolved Thai Rak Thai party's populist policies.

During his address, Samak defended ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, saying he was illegitimately overthrown by the military junta.

Samak and his entourage then travelled to Buriram province to hold a rally there.

30,000 people walk out on Samak speech

In his first provincial political campaign since taking the helm of the People's Power party (PPP), veteran politician Samak Sundaravej saw three-quarters of his audience walk out during his speech in Buri Ram, and was greeted with catcalls in Nakhon Ratchasima. Ten minutes into his speech, the audience had dropped from about 40,000 to about 10,000. :o But Samak continued for another 30 minutes, criticising the government. Samak followed key PPP member Newin Chidchob on stage. The Burin Ram politician opened up to the public for the first time since last September's coup. Newin told the crowd the best way to carry the fight to the coup makers was to choose Samak as the next PM. Earlier in the day, Samak was met with boos and jeers from protesters in Nakhon Ratchasima who prevented him from worshipping at the Thao Suranaree statue. Samak's car changed direction, bypassing the province's landmark statue of the heroine, and headed to Wat Sala Loi, where he paid respect to her ashes instead. Samak threatened to sue the protestors for defamation. In his speech later in the day in Buri Ram, Samak said, ''The Thai Rak Thai party is immortal and now returns as the People's Power party.''

Well I guess if the hole wasn’t big enough in the bottom of the PPP ship, it just got bigger. I wonder how the government will deal with Samak’s statement that the PPP is the reincarnation of the TRT. Certainly well thought out, and will make a great opposite bookend with I am proud to be Thaksin’s proxy.

Not surprising in Khorat which is controlled by politicias not friendly to PPP albeit spread across a number of parties. However, something is going on in Newin's home province of Buri Ram. First he lost the charter vote there and now this. He is losing a lot of face and very very publically.

Suchinda knows how to keep his mouth shut and keep his end up a bargirl.

What bargirl? :o

What end? :D

>>>>>>>>>

The rally was in Buriram, not Korat. There's a thread in General about it - it appeared to be huge, really huge.

Today's news is that people left as soon as Samak got on stage. Perplexing, if true.

Quite the successful road tour for the new boy band, Samak and the Proxies.

Reminiscent of Thaksin's Issan road show guffaws like taking a splash shower in some farmer's outdoor hut to show he's a man of the common folk... then drying off with a 30,000 baht Italian-designer label linen towel purchased at The Emporium.

"Samak threatened to sue the protestors for defamation. " - Holy christ...

Oh the absurdity.

Just like the heart, lungs, kidneys and liver go on doing their work without you thinking about it, these people seem to have developed an involuntary defense system where the eyes and ears see and hear something they don't agree with and then the mouth spews out lawsuits, then the hand signs legal documents. They should try rolling into a ball and lay motionless.

I still can't make my mind about these 30,000 people leaving in the middle of Samak's speech.

Did it really happen? There's nothing in the Nation about it.

Just imagine 30,000 people getting up and leaving while you talk? That's a massive walk out.

Just imagine Thaksin's reaction if he was in Samak's place?

Was it to show Samak that he is a nobody in PPP? He won't take it gladly.

On the other hand, if it the story is false, and the 40,000 number is probably the lower estimate, that's one HUGE rally, and it's just a start. It took PTV many many weeks in Bangkok to get so many people.

It'd take DUDD (or whatever acronym they've adopted this week) months of accumulated numbers to reach that...

but anyway... he's an additional report on Samak and the Proxies grand kickoff to their international musical tour...

PPP Leader’s Political Speech Fails to Woo Audience

Since his accession to the post of the People Power Party’s leader, Samak Sundaravej and his colleagues had organized their first provincial political campaign in Buri Ram and Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday, where more than 30,000 people in the audience had walked out during the first minutes of his speech.

During the first ten minutes of his speech in Buri Ram, the audience of 40,000 people had decreased to 30,000, as the veteran politician continued criticizing the government for another 30 minutes.

The PPP leader was accompanied by a renowned Buri Ram Politician and former MPs of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai Party, Newin Chidchob, who joined him on stage to defame the interim government.

Seen as one of deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s closest aides, the Buri Ram politician had made his first public appearance since his detention during the military coup on Sept. 19 of last year.

Citing his venture during the 10-day period detention, Newin iterated that he had been instructed to strip off his clothes for a body search, adding that soldiers later released him on the street of Lat Krabang district, where he hailed a cab home afterwards.

Newin encouraged the crowds to battle against the junta by voting for the PPP and electing Samak as the next Prime Minister.

The Buri Ram politician asserted that he had been accused for being one of the financial nominees for Thaksin, where most described him as a major force behind the existing “undercurrent” system of the old power clique.

He added that he loves Thaksin for great deeds which he had done for the country, as he blamed the coup makers for staging their coup to destroy benefits achieved by Thai Rak Thai and its government.

On a separate development, the party’s campaign in Nakhon Ratchasima also failed to turn out as expected, where Samak had been discharged with boos from protesters who tried to prevent him from paying homage to the Thao Suranaree statue.

Reportedly, around 50 demonstrators of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) with banners had made speeches criticizing the PPP leader for his fervent support for deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

Under the leadership of Prateep Na Nakhon and Sarapee Boonpratoochai, the speeches covered facts aimed to attack Samak and his role in the political crisis of October 1976, claiming that he does not deserve to worship the provincial statue.

Due to strong resistance of protesters against him, his caravan turned back and headed toward Wat Sala Loi to pay respect to the provincial heroine’s ashes instead.

Samak and his party members later went to the Sima Thani hotel to meet about 1,200 of PPP supporters who awaited their arrival, as the veteran politician shrugged off the PAD protest against him, saying he had already been prepared for such demonstration.

Organising a crowd of 30-40K in the rural provinces is not exactly difficult for the local big boys and the Chidchob family are the big boys in Buri Ram. That a large number reportedly left, and it does seem that a large number did leave, as Mr. Samak started speaking does show something is going on. Could be a power struggle in the PPP or could be a show of strength by someone else (ulikely) or maybe someone carefully paid people to leave when Mr. Samak got up in a carefully planned operation to humiliate him. Who knows. The one thing that is true is that if the Chidchobs power in Buri Ram is going to be broken that can only be a good thing.

By the way, shame for Mr Newin being forced to strip when held by the army if his claims are true, which must remain highly debatable considering the lies associated with him. I wonder if those women in the Nation tower threatened with gang rapes by the drunken mobs outside that building a year or so ago have much sympathy with him. One also wonders how Khun Newin must have felt stripping considering certain widely heard rumors concerning him.
