edwardandtubs
I remember the olden days before Uber and Grab when you could phone a number and a taxi would turn up a few minutes later. It only cost 20 baht. Is that service still available and if so what's the number? When Grab is giving you the "high demand" message at 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday and doubling the fare, you know it's become a rip-off.

edwardandtubs
160 baht there with Grab and 60 baht back in a normal taxi. There is a permanent "sudden surge in demand" that requires them to rip off all their customers always.

I haven't used them for a long time and forgot the numbers, they are in another phone.
Lorry
BTW Bolt has about the same price as a taxi meter, cheaper than Grab. But you should be able to speak Thai (the driver will call you), and use a Thai name (driver will not call an English name, he will try to chat with a translation app, which takes about as long as if you walk to your destination on foot)
lujanit
I used to ring 1681 as they have an English option. That hasn't worked for ages. Any other numbers? Grab is a ripoff. Often no one available and if you do get a booking the price is double of a normal taxi.
