MOST ISAAN PEOPLE have been found to prefer Paetongtarn “Oong-ing” Shinawatra, daughter of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, as head of a post-election government, according to an opinion poll.

The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) poll, conducted earlier this month among a total of 2,000 people in 20 northeastern provinces where most of the country’s constituencies are located, has found 36.45% of the respondents supporting Paetongtarn, head of Pheu Thai Family, as prime minister after the next general election.

That compared to 12.65% of the Isaan respondents who preferred Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat, 10.20% who opted for Thai Sarng Thai party leader Sudarat Keyurapan, 9.85% who preferred Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and 6.50% who picked Thai Liberal party leader Seripisut Temiyavej for head of a post-election government.

Probably about right on the popularity of the PM - though I have never met 1 of the 1 on 10 - maybe i move in un-rich circles

In Isaan , most ( elderly ) don't care so much about politics , It's the daily food and drink that counts

Nothing to do with payment, Thai people vote for their tribal leaders.

The Thaksin family is the head of the Laos speaking people in Thailand (40% of the Thai population).

If the Thaksin family holds that position, it's not because of ethnicity.. They are Chinese/Thai.

I'm going to expound a little on that theme in the new thread outlining Pheu Thai party's opportunistic new/old proposal to return to the status ante regarding drugs in Thailand.

I am suspecting the tanks will start rolling once PT wins the elections. ????

shows just how pathetic politics is in Thailand when they keep voting in a family that only wants to enrich themselves and cares nothing for the people, it also shows the lack of education in the ones that vote for them and the fact they will do anything for money but this is thai politics, no rational thought by the voters and only ways to make themselves richer by the parties

Any sensible military government would be altering the votes at the ballot box.

I am just wondering why a Shinawatra again? Ok Thailand was better when Thaksin was PM , but there should be others who are very capable too.  New blood to move forward I think is better, than doing the same over and over again.

With respect, doesn't this also apply to those who keep voting in serving/retired military Generals??

so  if your choice doesn't win at the ballot box just foment a coup and insert a general who of course would have no interest to "enrich" himself and his cronies....got it.

Most Isaarn people will vote for anybody that drops 500 baht through their letterbox or preferably a 1,000 baht note in the hand.

Three out of the same family? This is starting to look like a dynasty.

Yeah, same in America. Democracy really is overrated. Thailand needs a few more Rhodes scholars as future army generals -- to insure solid leadership after the next coup.

She was my student about 26 years ago, amazing how time flies, nice girl, although at the time, I wasn't happy with the nonsense her father was up to as Finance minister in big Jew's govt..

Better for whom?

Certainly not foreigners. He raised visas from 500 baht to 1900 baht, PR went up by 80,000 baht.

The killing of 1000's of drug suspects extrajudicially, not them.

"Any sensible military government"?? The only sense they have is how to manage all the money that comes in.

Just imagine the unelected PM's bank accounts, local and off shore today than when he stole the country in 2014.

But still a fraction of the Democratically elected Taksin!

And most of the people from Isaan are uneducated and let their daughters enter the night life industry and marry old foreign men.

How would you know, when you live in Pattaya?

Don't judge all Isarn Thais by the ones you pick up in Pattaya. : (

Thaksin played the game perfectly he kept everyone happy, the baht exchange rate was at it's right value,

Do you have any idea what he did as Deputy PM  in 1997?

What is the right value?

Maybe they could set-up a remote connection where she could lead the country from Dubai?

It's the Thai way...

The leaders get richer by millions and the poor get 500 baht for their vote

both sides are happy.

So who would suggest Thais vote for given the entire political scene here is dominated by money.
