Football - Clinical Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in the 250th El Clasico to go top of La Liga and inflict their rivals' first league defeat of the season. Arsenal are four points clear at the top of EPL after a 1-0 at Leeds United. Liverpool put their recent English Premier League struggles behind them to end Manchester City's unbeaten run 1-0 in a hot-tempered encounter at Anfield, which saw Jurgen Klopp sent off. Chelsea won 2-0 at Aston Villa, Manchester United and Newcastle United drew 0-0 at Old Trafford and Southampton and West Ham also drew 1-1 at St Mary's.

 

Neymar scored the only goal as Paris St-Germain beat rivals Marseille 1-0 to remain unbeaten at the top of Ligue 1 in France. In the German Bundsliga Bayern Munich moved into second place after hammering SC Freiburg 5-0.

In Italy  Napoli came from behind to beat Bologna 3-2 and return to the top of Series A.

 

Rugby Union - Bill Sweeney, the English Rugby Football Union chief executive, says the current model in English rugby is "broken" and clubs have been "living beyond their means" for too long. The financial governance of the sport is under growing scrutiny in the wake of the crisis at Worcester and Wasps. Worcester have been relegated and suspended while Wasps are set to follow them into administration this week.
