Three students drown in Prey Veng’s boat accident

A boat carrying nine students in Prey Veng’s Por Rieng district sank on Saturday, killing three of the young passengers. According to witnesses, students, aged between 15 and 16, were having a fun ride in a wooden boat on Ta Ey Lake after a football match. The boat sank in the middle of the lake and six were rescued in time.

 

Mao Kimlong, Por Rieng district council chairman said yesterday that he was “deeply saddened” to learn of the three students’ deaths in the boat tragedy. “They were students of the Por Rieng Junior High School. We took action immediately after being informed of it, but we are very sorry we were not able to save them in time,” he said.


The three victims Neth David, 15, Po Run, 15 and 16-year-old San Ly Meng. They lived in Kampong Russey commune, Por Rieng district, Prey Veng province. The Por Rieng District Police issued a statement telling students not to play in the water during their free time to avoid accidents.
