Thai police tell traders how to spot "fake slips" on banking app transfers after spate of rip-offs

The Royal Thai police spokesman advised traders on how to spot fake slips for transfers on banking apps. 

 

This followed a spate of cases in which many traders at the main Ang Thong market in central Thailand were defrauded, reported Daily News.

 

The people responsible - a woman aged about 30 and a middle aged man - bought clothes and other items and paid with a banking app.

 

Or so the traders thought who had a cursory look at the "evidence" on their phones. 

 

The slips were fake.

 

Deputy spokesman Lt-Col Thathep Chaichanbut outlined a four step plan as to how traders could protect themselves from fraud of this nature that can see criminals jailed for 3 years and fined 60,000 baht.

 

 

The advice includes checking for abnormal font sizes and irregularities, scanning QR codes, using bank notifications and utilizing automated trading platforms. 

 

The spokesman also warned people to beware of a similar crime that is prevalent these days.

 

This is using advance payment transfers that specify a future date when monies will be paid.

These are routinely cancelled by criminals.

 

Sometimes traders with a lot of banking app payments do not spot that they have parted with goods but not received payment after the deal was cancelled.
