A lot is at stake. Big players whose interests will be protected have invested fortunes while many have invested in smaller scale start-ups such as shops and will want to continue trading in flowers to maximise profits.

Big players whose interests will be protected..

as always money talks.

None at all - except in the deluded minds of the Thai gov who clearly know nothing about weed.

Anutin doesn't really want more restrictions or medical only, like he says,  but he needs a solution that will satisfy conservatves and head off the pressure for recriminalisation that would be a disaster for him and his supporters with huge investments in the industry.

mmm....who would of thought there is a direct 'vested-interest' in the industry by top Gov. employees!  ????

Oh please, not more of this nonsense. That alcohol sales rule should have been removed since years but no politician or party has the balls to tackle it. Anyone who thinks this reduces alcohol sales or even hindering alcoholics from getting their stuff is an absolute dreamer.

Every (literally every) foreigner that comes here just rolls his eyes about this stupid and obsolete law

Everyone can buy a box of 12 bottels on the street when the shop is open. only the big supermarket chains not. What a logic again.

Two key comments in the article:

"Thailand's marijuana policy was ill thought through which has resulted in these interim teething issues."

"Further clarity will come with the Cannabis Act due next year though that is unlikely to have many surprises.

Cannabis is set to stay legal and available in Thailand - though watch this space as to what you can and can't do with weed. And watch out for how the RTP interpret the law. "

Same old story, they announce something without much thought or deliberation and later have to put the mistakes right.

Enjoy it while you can (for those that do).

You are a pretty pessimistic guy to have a handle like yours..

So what did you interpret that last statement to mean Captain Positive?  If you've lived here any amount of time you know tat RTP looks for loopholes to extort money out of you at every turn.

Unless somebody has money or access to money to invest it is not really easy to cultivate and grow flowers in a controlled environment. Any Tom Dick Harry farmers cannot grow and profit from it. I was reading that some small scale growers, well educated, have to invest at least 3-5 million to start/experiment and grow the right kind of flowers that have demand and people are going to pay. Of course, retail distribution can be done with less money. And some regulation is really needed like age verification for purchase, no shop near schools etc.
