Let's take them in order. Once again you are incorrect. The house we own is already in his name so no issue there. With the condo in my name, my Thai spouse would NOT have to sell, at a 'fire sale', a foreign quota condo that I will to him. Most people other than you know this already as common knowledge but here's Google: No, the Thai spouse is not required to sell the condo. They can legally transfer it directly into their name under Thai ownership at the Thailand Land Department. You're 'sure' are you? Just as sure as you were with #1? Even if it's true, it's meaningless. I certainly don't make my financial decisions based on what some stranger might 'prefer'. Wrong again. If you know what you're doing, you can do very well, even starting late at 'retirement age'. Spouse and I hit Thailand in 2010. I was close to retirement age, 59. First thing we bought was a used car. Second thing we bought was a small studio condo in Rayong, all we could afford and even that was a stretch. We parlayed that first condo into what we have today--a large 5-bedroom Pattaya pool villa and a center city Bangkok condo in a luxury project, plus enough cash in the bank to buy another property outright if we feel like it. And, some other investments--the 'ol not all eggs in one basket works for us. Guilty as charged. I've always posted that buying and owning the space I live in is different than, say, buying and owning X amount of stock in Google. As I said in my previous post, the investment aspect comes a distant second. That will always be the case. For those who see no difference between the two, renting might be the better choice.
