What are they requiring these days for a certificate of residence to open a bank account? 

Rental agreement or even a hotel bill with business card works ok, 2 photos, 300 baht. Not all banks require it so it's better to find a bank branch that's willing to open an account first and ask requirements

You leave the application and pick up the residence certificate next day.
