BANGKOK, Dec 1 (TNA) – Point deduction will start on Jan 9 next year on the drivers who violate traffic rules, said the national police chief.

Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas, the national police chief, said each licensed driver would have 12 points. Point deduction will happen in two forms.

I see many replies ..lol.. it seems it must have fell on deaf ears...

WHY not from NOW???

All lip service. Other similar countries have "done" this and it amounted to nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Any chance of a receipt, officer?

no !!

Safe round our neck of the woods then , people riding motor bikes while texting/tiktokking/facebooking with no helmets , probably no license/tax/insurance.

Tuesday there was a Police stop carried out about 5 klicks from us. Cones , flashing lights etc.

People were just turning left about 50 metres beforeit , driving round the temple and coming out 100 metres the other side of the Police stop.

Big deal really, when it is generally considered as optional to have a driving licence anyhow. Even for the average Thai that uses up all their points, it's got as much chance of stopping them from still driving without one as Mr. T has of being a convincing ladyboy.

This has been on Asean Now about 2 times already. I cannot understand why a new topic.

90 day ban is going to stop people driving then.

Take away the idiots that deserve this the most there are 1000s of Thais that literally cannot earn a bean without driving. Without taking their motor away you'll not keep them off the roads.

Laughable lawmaking yet again.

Yes but the police aren't able or willing to enforce laws so this new one means nothing. Nice try Thailand.

Sometimes when we drive around with the missus, we follow cars and I often count the point deductions that should be given to cars driving in front of us. We find that some could accumulate 12 points in a matter of 5 minutes.

Not sure how this point-based system will be enforced but there is definitely room for it.

The 1million+ unlicenced (mostly riders) breathe a collective sigh of relief! Can't lose points if ya got no licence!

please continue:
