Pattaya-The U-Tapao Airport located near the popular tourism destination of Pattaya held special ceremonies today, December 10th, 2022, to welcome hundreds of Russian tourists as part of a national celebration marking the arrival of ten million tourists in Thailand this year alone.

 

Thailand views the event, although far short of a record 40 million visitors in 2019, as a major step to recovery of its vital tourism industry after two and a half years of COVID-19 restrictions and border closures put the tourist industry on life support.

 

Much of the recent recovery, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, or TAT, is attributed to Russian tourism. Although ongoing sanctions and restrictions cause many Russian visitors to be limited on where they can travel internationally, caused by the ongoing military action between Ukraine and Russia, Thailand has continued to maintain neutrality in this conflict. As a result, Thailand has been a very popular destination for Russian visitors.

Where can I see the daily flight schedule for U-tapao airport? It was my favorite airport for visa/border run pre covid-19.

Baht busses from Jomtien are now loaded to the gunnels with Russians - even more so than pre plandemic days. 

 

And my Jomtien barber tells me he has acquired a whole new Russian customer base in recent months.  "But they no speak mut English, and very rude", he also informs me.

They should be welcomed when they know how to behave responsibly in the international community which includes not invading and terrorizing ones neighbor. Not in our lifetimes I expect.

As I will be using the airport in five weeks, I went on their web site.  What a mess AND no one replies to emails!

Better manners than the Brits, far better looking, and speak more understandable English. Kids are cute, teenage daughters lovely. And the babes! OMG. Vastly improved the beach scenery.

 

Unfortunately, TAT: ANF members don't see them checking into the fleabag hotels around Soi Buakhao with the great Golden Egg Layers; beside them also ordering baked beans on toast; or drinking Chang and blathering about footie w/ the drunks in the beer bars. So the beloved forum myth Russians only spend in 7/11s.

 

In fact they spend good money in the better hotels, restos, and shopping malls. That's why Thailand made it a priority to get the Russians back over here, OBVIOUSLY.

Here's a typical day at U Tapao.

 

 

 

Russian scheduled flights in the "Top routes" show 2 flights/week from Novosibirsk, and 1 flight/week each from Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk and Kemerovo.

 

That Vladivostok flight is probably a charter flight? Here's the map of scheduled Russian destinations.

Obvious selection bias to support the usual bigotry. But low T leads to low expectations. Now don't be TOO scared of the hubbies & boyfriends; lot of hotties out in their thongs. Grabbing a handful would probably be going too far, however.
