Hi everyone

I'm not very technical so I was hoping someone here can help me. I'm looking for a webcam for my Mac Powerbook. I went to the istudio in Chiangmai and they don't carry it anymore. When asking around at other shops I get varied answers as to whether a certain webcam is able to be used with macs. So if anyone can help it will be much appreciated!

Also, one other question - is it possible to use a digital camera as a webcam? If possible - how to do it?

Thank you!!!

As long as the web camera you buy has a USB connection and the installation software for a Mac. Check the package and read it for Mac compatibility.

FYI: The Logitech WebCam in this ad shows compatibility for both PC and Mac.

As for the second question, check the instruction booklet that came with the digital camera. Some digital cameras (and most new video cameras) will serve as a webcam. Many digital cameras will not.

Keep in mind that USB cameras will not work with iChat, if you are planning to use video with that. There are a couple of remedies to that however:

Also, regardless of which cam you buy, this is worth every bit of the US$8 that it costs (and something Apple should have incorporated with their software):

i think 10.4.8 or 9 added more usb camera support - i'll try now with my 3com thingy. (macbook here)

edit: nope :o
