The Thai cabinet extended the edict for the protection of the environment in seven districts of the southern province of Phang-nga province today (Tuesday), for another two years from April 1st.

Enforcement of the edict in Khura Buri, Takua Pa, Ko Yao, Thai Mueang, Thap Put, Mueang and Takua Thung districts was set to end on March 31st.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Tipanan Sirichana said that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha wants the edict to be adjusted to ease its impacts on local fishermen and may allow them to use push nets in fishing.
