Daily News Thai Caption: Suspicious behaviour...no escape

Daily News reported that Muang Chiang Rai police became suspicious of a passenger in Seat 3 of a tour bus heading for Nakhon Sawan.

Theerayuth, 35, was shaking and had turned pale as officers got on the bus for a check.

He was frisked but nothing illegal was found.

However, in the hold of the bus police found his travel case.

It contained 148,000 yaba (meth mixed with caffeine, a drug of choice in Thailand).

He admitted the drugs were his saying that he was going to be paid 100,000 baht to deliver them to Phitsanulok.

He had received 5,000 baht up front and would get the rest on delivery of the drugs.

He was detained.

Great work reporting this, informing the receiver of the drugs their courier has been nicked who can now do a runner. Brilliant RTP.

Thai police can do A LOT MORE than what they seem to be wanting to do, the operative words are when they want to do...

Brilliant, great work, brianthainess, what makes you think that the recipient wasn't apprehended before this was published?

They check busses coming from Mae sai , Chiang Rai , as well as other traffic ,

but only seem to do it a night , so if you want to be a mule do it in  the  day time.

Yes, they do. All from buses, to vans transporting people. They actually make checks very often.

He's a great twit then for not driving in a car on his own. Hell, he could probably have hired a taxi and walked away with a huge amount of the 100k

Except between Chiang Rai and Nakon Sawan he would probably go through at least five police check points and would almost certainly get pulled at one of them. There's a t least three on the highway between CM and NS.

Also on the alternative route to Phitsanulok (his ultimate destination) from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai via Lampang, Den Chai and Uttaradit (Route 11)

It's also probable  that the mule wouldn't know who the recipient was anyway. He would simply be given a rendezvous at a certain time. Besides that we don't know how many hours elapsed between the intercept and the press release.

I have seen many buses pulled over at check points south of Chiang Rai during the day.
