A judge fines Trump and his lawyer for a 'frivolous' suit against his political foes

Court of Justice Trial: Impartial Judge is Sitting, Public Stands. Supreme Federal Court Judge Starts Civil Case Hearing. Sentencing Law Offender.

A Florida judge sanctioned former President Donald Trump and one of his attorneys, ordering them to pay nearly $1 million for filing what he said was a bogus lawsuit against Trump's 2016 rival Hillary Clinton and others.

In a blistering filing on Thursday, U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks accused Trump of a "pattern of abuse of the courts" for filing frivolous lawsuits for political purposes, which he said "undermines the rule of law" and "amounts to obstruction of justice."

"Here, we are confronted with a lawsuit that should never have been filed, which was completely frivolous, both factually and legally, and which was brought in bad faith for an improper purpose," he wrote.

It might be. He's always claimed he's filthy rich but it's become abundantly clear those claims are BS, just like anything else he says.

Excellent.  Finally some kind of consequences he's facing.

He withdrew his suit against Letitia James after the judge warned him it was "borderline frivolous". The hip pocket nerve is the only thing he understands and now that he's running for prez the GOP aren't footing his legal bills anymore.

The walls are finally closing in on this trailer trash in a suit. I sincerely hope he lives long enough to get measured for an orange jumpsuit that compliments his pallor.

Hopefully the first in a long line of convictions still to come.

not frivolous at all. The findings said that he was definitely not absolved of wrongdoing and that in addition to that there was at least 10 examples of obstruction of justice by Trump. The report released by Bill Barr was a bogus coverup and did not reflect the actual report filed by the investigators. If you only watch FOX then you only heard the coverup version and none of the real facts. The DOJ has a long standing policy of not charging a sitting president. Hopefully they will open an investigation on that as well. Can add it to the other 63 ongoing investigation against him. He is a one man crime wave and needs to FINALLY be held accountable.

The judge in the case actually castigated Barr for misrepresenting the report. Mueller wrote in his report that were not for Justice Dept policy prohibiting criminal prosecution of a sitting president, he could have brought 10 criminal charges against Trump.

You think that they appointed a high-powered prosecutor like Jack Smith not to go after Trump. So much evidence against him.

Only because of his delaying tactics which have now been officially labeled as obstruction and strategic abuse of the judicial process, by U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks.

Its coming and about time.

Sometimes I really wonder what Trump has to do to make his disciples (like you) realize that he’s just a two-bit grifter who’s been conning people and companies out of billions of dollars all his adult life. But maybe he was right when he said he could shoot someone in the middle of 5th avenue and get away with it.

I'm not American and the US courts seem a very weird system to me ( eg suing a corporation because one thought it OK to put a hot drink where it could spill ), but as many cases seem to be "frivolous" this ruling seems politically biased to me.

I hope Trump appeals and wins.

What does Trump's record or repeated failures in the courts tell you? Anything? The only bias at work I see here is yours.

America has a reputation for being overly litigious.  Trump is the poster child.  He sues people because he can.  Nearly every lawsuit he initiates is frivolous.  He sued an author once because the guy revealed Trump's wealth to be much less than he brags.  Trump lost.  But because most people don't have the means to deal with lawsuits (and the usual appeals), they'll settle.  All of those election fraud lawsuits in 2020 were frivolous, clogging up our courts.  Simply put, Trump is a menace to American society.

If reincarnation is real, what will Donald Trump be in the next life?

A noodle vendor in Sukhumvit ?

farmer in banana plantation in Buriram, Pianist in a brothel, beggar, Old man in Shangri-La ? ????

Whataboutism ?

Although the headlines would have you believe otherwise, The McDonalds case wasn't actually a frivolous lawsuit, at the time McDonalds actually had a documented policy of serving their takeaway coffee at close to boiling point (so it traveled better and would still be hot when you got it home). spilling normal hot coffee (60 degress Celsius) would be a frivolous lawsuit, The McDonalds case was spilling coffee where the coffee was purposely sold at 100 degrees Celsius, knowing it would burn in the event of an accident, and not warning accordingly.

Trumpers like dear leader whine and moan if investigations move to slow or too fast...it's what they do...whine whine whine.

DOJ moves very slowly as usual because unlike trumpers they don't go off half cocked with a bunch of theories and BS.  They actually gather all the facts from documents and testimony.  Then they determine what charges should be filed if any.

None of us are privy to what evidence the DOJ actually already has or may still be double checking but I for one would bet they are being very careful to present only FACTS and not a bunch of tin hat conspiracies like the BIG LIE.  Donnie will likely get his days in court where he can try and sell his side of the case  to a jury and we will see how that works out when it becomes all about provable facts.

Well given that Mr Trump, if one is to believe the declaration on his tax returns (a very big "if" I will grant you!), is a dismally unsuccessful businessman who is effectively "broke" a fine relative to his means would amount to about ten bob!

Mind you, I am sure that it will be a long wait until this fine is paid!

That's Fifth Avenue in NYC.  A good chance, if you do the math, that the someone will not be white, and the MAGA crowd couldn't care less.  But if he did so on Main Street in, oh, let's say Lexington, Kentucky and the victim was white and male, they just might pay attention; probably will fall for whatever "they had it coming" excuse.
