Advice needed regarding application for Non-imm "O" visa in Thailand.

Hi all,

I arrived on December 2nd 2022 on a 45 days exempt.

I was planning to apply for a 3-month Non-imm "O" visa, but I missed to apply within 15 days before the end of the 45 days,

so I had to pay for extra 30 days, which gave me permissinon to stay until February 14th.

On the 20. January I applied for the 3-month Non-imm "O" visa [Retirement] at immigration in Khon Kaen.

 

I thought, that Immigration could give me that visa the same day I applied, but instead I got a stamp on the backside of the receipt

saying "application of stay is under consideration, applicant must contact immigration office again in person on 11. February"

 

Ok, I payed the 2,000 baht fee and the officer asked for another 100 baht for "coffee", so 2,100 baht

I just checked the date when I was back home and found out, that the 11. february is a saturday, and I think Immigration does not work on saturdays !

So today I asked my girlfriend to call Immigration to ask, if I could go on the day before, also considering, that my 30 days run out on the 14. February, so I wont have much time to leave Thailand, if for any reason my application is rejected !

 

According to my girlfriend he told her, that:

"I could only go to immigration after 11. February and there is no late fine for foreigners",

whatever that means.

I am wondering:

Is it normal, that such an aplication is "under consideration" ?

 

I am a bit worried, that the decision is so close to the last day, I am allowed to stay here,

so any advice is appreciated.

Dont worry. 

All good. You will receive stamp around 11th. Being a Saturday just go in Monday 13.

Don't worry about your Feb 14 date. 

That stamp will give you 90 day permit.

In the last 30 days of that permit apply for your extension.

The extension stamp will be issued on the day you apply. 

No under consideration period for the extension.

You are all good.

I appreciate the answer and hope, that you are right.

The worry is because, in theory they could reject my application, but maybe that does not often happen..........

 

Of course I brought a letter from the bank stating that I have more than 800,000 baht in my account, so no reason really for them not to grant the visa, I guess......

I cannot recall reading one report of where an application under consideration had subsequently been rejected.

There may have been a minor clarification required even that I can't recall.

I had the same stamp this month  I was told to come back on 16th jan my 45 days were up on 18th jan. I was concerned that it was cutting it fine but wife assured me all will be ok and it duly was, so relax and go on 13th like others suggest.

So I went to Immigration today to find out, if I could get the visa.

 

Normally I never go to immigration on mondays, too many people for my liking, but today I had to go.

And yes, I got the 3 month Non "O" based on retirement, the stamp showed the visa was issued on 30. January, so I am admitted until the end of April.

So in the beginning of April I will apply for the one-year extension.

It is extremely rare that an under consideration application is rejected. If that does occur, Immigration calls you to tell you to immediately come for the rejection stamp and seven days to leave the country.

 

What you may find, and is not that rare, is that you go on Monday and are given a new report back date, saying the application under consideration is not back yet from division headquarters. That is irritating, but again nothing to be concerned about.
