I live in the UK so it is a bit of a fuss. She says it is for security reasons.

Is the school aware that you live in UK?

Security: guess it's a private school?

They might have a strict regime which persons are allowed to pickup the children.

Either mother/father or a nanny or the like?

(I remember that from a mate who lived near Bangkok for a while and had his son in a high priced private school).

Sounds like they are going to make you a picture ID card so that you can enter the school to pick up your kid.

The good schools have these.

You don't want any Tom, Dick, n Harry wandering around the school, do you?

My Sons school has this security measure.

We have a photo ID which electronically activates the entry gate...  We can’t access the school without the ID badge / card which has our photo on it.

IF you don’t have the card / badge you’re not getting in the school without someone from the main reception escorting you.

They don't accept selfies. I find it a bit of an overkill, that I need to get a passport photo taken and sent in the post.

Yup... thats taking it a bit too far... I suspect there is something lost in translation from the staff to your wife and then to you....

E-mail the school and ask them exactly what they need.

---------

I recall my Wife telling me something which didn’t make sense at all.

I contacted the member of staff who was Thai (head of Thai Language) and she explained it.

It still made no sense to me and was completely illogical, but my Wife was adamant that was what we had to do.

I contacted the head of year who was astounded how their staff could get the instruction so ‘upside down’....   logic prevailed eventually....

The point there, communication is often not a strong point and things sometimes need questioning and questioning further, especially when something doesn’t make sense to you.

Let somebody take a picture of your face with your phone and send it to the Line ID of your wife. Selfies could be you sitting at a table with a couple of friends.

Yes, I drop off and pick up my step-grand-daugter when I am at the village.

I'm the only Falang in the village.

So I need a selfie?????????

Most schools have some method to identify parents or authorized persons who can enter and have access to a particular child.  Many schools require teachers and auxiliary to wear a picture ID at all times as well.

A good quality phone picture with a plain background should be sufficient.  Just cut the photo to passport size.

A few years back, I had to renew my passport, but the photo I gave them was too old (it was actually the same photo as my last PP).  The embassy called and told me they needed a new one and could I get it to them the same day.  I was in a different city and the nice counsel officer told me to have someone take several photos with my phone against a plain white wall and email them.  I did and they used one of those.

I think if an embassy will renew a passport with a 'selfie', a school should be able to use one as well.
