Daily News Thai Caption: (Victim) thought he was an expert angler

Daily News had reenactment pictures of a thief who had struck up a conversation with a man fishing by a klong.

But the man produced a knife and stole two phones and fled on a motorcycle.

He proved relatively easy to catch as he'd exchanged Line IDs with the angler who had fought back.

The metropolitan police Region 2 commander had instructed Sai Mai police in northern Bangkok to make an arrest after a warrant was issued for snatch theft using a conveyance by the Minburi court against Chalermchon Na Songkhla, 41.

A Yamaha bike was taken into evidence after the arrest of the suspect in Sai Mai.

On 17th January the victim had gone to the Sai Mai police to say that a man had stopped on a motorcycle as he was fishing in Sai Mai Soi 85 by a bridge.

They struck up a conversation about angling and exchanged Line IDs. The man then said he was off home but quickly returned with a knife that he put to the victim's throat.

A struggle ensued in which the assailant stole two phones valued at 8,000 baht. The knife fell in the water.

A police investigation led to the warrant issued by the court last Thursday.

The suspect in this case said that he had been en employee of a phone company but lost his job.

He decided on the spur of the moment to steal the victim's phones. He had gone back to his bike where he kept a knife under the seat.

After stealing the phones he saw that one of them could not be unlocked and the other had a cracked screen.

He threw them both in a klong.
