Report street racers and get 3,000 baht! "Big Juap" chairs meeting to discuss ongoing war on "Dek Waen"

They are known as "Dek Waen" in Thai and have been around for decades.

 

These are children and young people who get involved in illegal racing on the public highways.

 

Once subject to little more than sporadic crackdowns, in more recent years there has been a concerted effort to eradicate the menace on the Thai roads.

 

In a story replete with rhetoric from Siam Rath, the media said that action has been demanded from the top by PM Prayuth and DPM Prawit.

 

"Dek Waen" were causing accidents, safety issues and trouble for the public.

The demands from Thailand's leading politicians had made the RTP chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat set up a committee on the issue that is fronted by Pol Gen Torsak Sukwimon and his deputy Pol Lt-Gen Prajuap "Big Juap" Wongsuk.

 

Yesterday Big Juap - appearing at RTP HQ at an Interpol office - spoke of the four point plan to end street racing namely before, during, investigating and following up to change behavior.

 

And he also mentioned the all important way that the public can be the eyes and ears of the RTP by reporting information on 1599, 191 or via social media.

They can get 3,000 baht a time after successful prosecutions.

 

Twenty three people have already done that with 69,000 baht paid out.

 

It was the second story in one day that mentioned the public informing to help the police - Siam Rath also had one about telling the authorities about people who illegally reserve parking in public places, reported elsewhere on ASEAN NOW today.

You would think the local police are aware of any street racing being carried out within their jurisdiction and could handle the matter without such a high-up directive being necessary.

last Sunday there were a whole group of streetracers on the highway laying flat on their scooter no helmets and speeding more than 100km an hour... No police to be seen... maybe a better punishment would be confiscate the motorcycle and fold it in a crusher before giving it back...They act totally irresponsible for themselves and other users on the roads... and besides that the Government could implement that these scooters can't drive faster than 50km an hour....but ok I know this is Thailand
