This story has di much fodder for humour but now is not the right time.

Condolences to the slain cop.

Its possible the car driver couldnt see the chaser in his mirrors and changed lanes causing the collision without deliberation. He almost certainly knew he was being chased. Did the bike have 'blues and twos'?

He said he fled because he was scared of the consequences. He admitted to drinking and having beer and an E-cigarette in his car.

And he's a driving instructor, that explains a lot.

Plus he was scare of the consequences of hitting a police officer who was chasing him, so he thought fleeing would be a better idea.

The consequences now are rather dire.

Agreed that was a deliberate act to take out the motorcycle.

Not an accident, it was murder.

With driving instructors like that, the daily carnage I see on the roads here is becoming a bit more understandable.

Agree totally! My wife went to a driving instructor and some of the stuff he told her explains a lot of why there's so much road carnage over here. I steered her--no pun intended, in the right direction and have mentored her ever since, so far so good.........touch wood. Basically I've always told myself, "It's  a matter of when, not if, you're going to have an accident. You just hope it's not that serious or your fault.

I wasn't aware that such a job existed in Thailand, even after more than 10 years living here, considering that the driving standards are closely related to most drivers with an IQ of below 10.

Seems to me the guy was making money under false pretences and the fact he was drinking alcohol just adds insult to the victim.

An obviously untrained rider in pursuit was never going to end well. Riding at high speed down the inside lane was the first mistake as it only offers 1 possible escape route. Trying to overtake was the second.

The whole driving system is a joke here - DMV, training and education enforcement punishment and now driving instructors…

and road carnage continues…

Driving instructor.......jail. If the driver was lets say the hier to a drinks company they would already be out of the country.

Hmmm…. The usual high standards of driving on Thai roads i see?

Police don't believe other aspects of his story related to the collision.

Looks very much like he deliberately took him out.

I wonder what was really in the car...

Cop was reckless, probably thought he was in a movie.  I'm surprised he didn't get taken out by another driver earlier.

Couldn't make it up could you ?

Like a "The Onion" headline story.

RIP Sergeant Setthakan, you were killed because of the man being afraid because he had an e-cigarrete device.

Your family should sue the government for its stance on these devices which unfortunately created the situation you faced and perished from.....

Idiot.

And this is what happens if you are not a Red Bull child.

Boy howdy, does that look familiar 'eh?  I bet the results are different for a 'driving instructor' as opposed to a billionaire's heir.

Maybe he should make contact and get some advice .

and it should be tried as such;

1. provided he doesn't get bail and do a runner

2. provided he survives long enough.

What were the "consequences" of drinking a beer compared to the consequences of killing a policeman?  Impossible to understand the thai male.

One of my biggest complaints about Thailand is that they have no Highway Patrol who do "hot-pursuit" in order to stop and ticket drivers for moving violations.

However - a single cop on a motorcycle in hot-pursuit of a car?  Not very wise.

One of my biggest complaints about Thailand is that they have no Highway Patrol....Of Course They Do,But they're always " Sitting Off " the Highways watching for Speeders or Waiting to Escort some VIP !!

" Below 10 " You say ?? I Reckon it's a Lot Lower than that with a Lot of Drivers,Please Note I Did NOT say ALL Drivers !!

Really? That's your takeaway from this story?

The driver was simply someone who couldn't handle the potential consequences.. probably less than 10,00 Baht in fines..

Video shows he deliberately rammed the policeman. Vehicular homicide..

Thanks to the video, everyone can see this.

Agreed. While the car driver is 100% at fault for everything else - this would've been prevented if he just followed the car instead of trying to overtake it. The rule of the road is don't **** with anything bigger than you - it's better to be wise (and alive) than right.

Very true. It seems the right of way here is determined by the size of your vehicle. Bikes must yield to cars, and cars must yield to trucks, since traffic laws rarely apply, it is survival of the biggest.

The fact that the offender is a driving instructor is sort of emblematic of the state of driver education in Thailand, wouldn't you say?

Below 10 isn't possible....if you want to bash Thais, be realistic.

They have difficulty doing the basics right. The man in civilian clothes with a lit cigarette leaning over the crashed motorcycle.

They do. Completely oblivious to any potential risks or danger.

They think there may be a case to answer of deliberate vehicular homicide.

I think that is evidently what happened having viewed the video, which as others have said was disturbing, but sadly, that shows the mentality of many here and highlights how disrespected the Police are, arguably for good reason.

Obviously 100% the bloke wanted to take the cop out, thankfully the cam footage will bury the driver.............
