Tragic death of Uyghur Muslim in Immigration detention raises case of 50 men seeking asylum

Azib Abduallah with his wife and family before they decided to leave China and trek towards Malaysia before being detained in Thailand in late 2013. The Uyghur Muslim man was detained by the Immigration Bureau for over nine years and separated from his wife and children in 2015 while later being held at the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) in Bangkok where he died last week from a reported lung infection.


Human rights groups and NGOs including the UNHCR are hoping the death of the 49-year-old man who was held for over nine years after he arrived in Thailand seeking to reach refuge in a Muslim country, will lead to an end to the nightmare of imprisonment.

Phitsanoluk Debtor shoots herself in front on Loan Shark

About 8.30 p.m., 58-year-old Somkiat called Mueang Phitsanuloak Police Station to report that his debtor and ex-girlfriend, Kaysorn, 47, had shot herself to death at his home on the Pichai Songkram Road in Phitsanulok’s central province.

The EU-funded transdisciplinary scientific project, PANDASIA, had its first meeting during the mid of February 2023 in Khon Kaen to discuss solutions in reducing future risks of zoonoses spread in Thailand as well as come up with preventive measures.
