Sydney has come alive for the 45th annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade — a history-making event that will see an Australian prime minister march with Australia’s LGBTI community for the first time.

More than 75,000 people are lining the streets for the largest celebration of the event in history.

The PM Anthony Albanese revealed to reporters earlier what he’ll be wearing for the parade.

Considering that there is a day in Mardi Gras/Carnivale week when the men dress as women (well, in Brazil at least) it's not a far stretch.  Ask conservative politician George Anthony Devolder Santos to explain it to you.

Like, you don't have to be Irish to be in the St Paddy's Day parade.  Who doesn't want to join a party on a day that celebrates public drunkedness?

I attended this in '98.

It was OK for 20 minutes. Got a bit bored of all the attention seekers. I ended up going to the pub and betting on the horses for the rest of the afternoon, won a couple of hundred bucks. It was a good afternoon.

Well such big events are great for tourism and the economy so it's a no brainer for all levels of Australian government to support them.

Also in the wake of a global fascistic backlash against LGBT civil rights in such places as Russia, Hungary, and the USA Australia is projecting good will soft power with such a parade. Similar to what Tel Aviv has been doing.

A fascistic backlash against LGBT civil rights in the USA? ????

Hyperbolic much?

Well the Republican party which controls the house of representatives has an anti LGBT legislative agenda quite similar to fascist Putin. They have been very successful in state legislatures across the country in republican controlled states which are many. Fascist demagogues need scapegoats.

Texas GOP adopts shockingly explicit anti-LGBTQ party platform

The state party calls homosexuality “an abnormal lifestyle choice" and accuses LGBTQ people of "grooming" children.

It's nothing like Putin's.

Stop being so dramatic.

You're wrong.

Their rhetoric is often identical.

They actively mirror each other..

This is related to why many American fascists support Putin and don't want to help Ukraine.

Before you continue with personal insults I suggest we just agree to disagree.

Throwing the word fascist around for everyone you disagree with just dilutes the effect.

You really should stop that.

The disabled, pensioners, and low income families are now living in card board boxes and tents because rents in Australia have increased at least 25% and in many areas nearly 50%.

Waiting time for public housing is greater than 10 years in every Australian state and territory.

And this Fwit politician is marching in a parade.

I wonder if he will join the parade when the homeless start protesting in the streets in the next few months.

Keep to the topic.

Your personal advice is exceedingly unwelcome.

Don’t be fooled: The GOP love affair with Putin is worse than it looks

Never mind the opinion polls and the Republican posturing. When the right sees Putin, they want what he's got

I am keeping on topic.

You keep using the word fascistic. I am saying it is totally inappropriate in the context you are using it.
